US Palm Defender Armor
Body armor specifically designed and targeted for the civilian market. I find that interesting.

I can’t decide if the reason I like that idea is because it’s a good idea or because my inner mall-ninja is coming through.

I had seen these before, but I didn’t know enough about armor to weigh in.

It’s on my ‘want’ list. My rational is, if it’s a good idea to lock myself in the bedroom with 911 on the phone and a gun in hand maybe a little body armor would be a good idea too. And if you HAVE to venture out because of kids or some other reason then body armor is an even better idea.

This got me thinking also; what about your head? Protecting your core is a good idea of course, but your head is just as, if not more important.

I want my wife to have it available.

Hopefully it’s better than their AK mags…

@Diomed,
I’m pretty sure it is. AK mags make crappy body armor. 😉

Just don’t let the Pima County Sheriff’s Dept. know you have it.

Since when are police not civilians?

It’s a stripped down plate carrier that can accept anything from kevlar pistol inserts to plates. For home defense I’d much rather have a set of standard IIIA with a wide coverage. I’m much more likely to run into people with pistols and shotguns than rifles and a vest with underarm and back coverage gives me a lot more protection.

Jeff the Baptist: I see 2-3 scenarios for it: for the “bump in the night” it’ll be faster to don than standard IIIA. It could also serve as something less expensive to hand to non-combatants. And for SHTF scenarios, it might be good for putting hard plates on top of your IIIA.
