Acting at your peril
Reader Bob in Houston asks about states with magazine limitations: Heres a poser, what about the 10 round mags for my .458 SOCOM caliber’d AR? when loaded with the .458 SOCOMs, its a 10 rounder but for a 223/5.56 caliber’d AR, its a 30 rounder? Might all be moot, for all I know the same states have banned .458 as well.

This is why they used to drill out the pins to the next larger size on those gad-awful AR-15 pistols. It’s a defense against someone claiming you assembled the short upper on a full stock lower.
You can just assume that the Asshole General of that particular state will express an opinion that is as least favorable to your case as possible. Then the Judges in that state will value that AG’s opinion highly because, well, they both get their paycheck from the same source.

Doesn’t the mag on a 458 Socom use a flattop follower rather than the 5.56 follower with the faux half-cartridge molded into the top? With the flat follower, I suspect that loading 5.56 would jam up the mag pretty good.

If you own a ,458 SOCOM upper in CA, you certainly can have 10 round mags for it.

IllTemperedCur,
Not on the day mine left the factory floor, it came with one “10” round C Products standard looking GI type mag, heck I think its even got a Magpul follower in it.
I’m also noting that Rock River doesn’t even list mags for the .458.
