How the hell did it have so little energy to ping pong in that house, but still enough to get out and fly another 200 years into a roof and then minivan?
I’m guessing that they pay a hefty premium, and with only one claim in 8 years, it won’t be huge deal. Even with damages, this is MAYBE a $50,000 dollar claim.
Number 1, they were under the supervision of the Alameda Co Sheriff’s department, and they are usually the ones loading the weapons, so Mythbusters themselves may be completely off the hook and able to put everything on the sheriff’s department.
As far as it all goes, my understanding is that it touched off out of battery while they were loading it. So #4 isn’t -as- applicable. (had it been in battery, there was the berm of the bomb range)
They’ve already stated that they won’t be airing this footage, unfortunately. Adam and Jaime weren’t present when it happened, it was the 3 younger sidekicks at the helm when it happened.
There is some justification for not airing the footage – such as not profiting off such an egregious error. I still think they should show it – make an entire issued dedicated to safety.
I haven’t heard enough details to understand exactly why it happened, but clearly the procedure in place was not foolproof. Then again, what human endeavor truly is?
I also doubt this is the only significant mishap they have experienced in eight years, just the only one that was so spectacular, and spectacularly public.

Sounds like some magic bullet action.

“”MythBusters” visit neighborhood they attacked and explain powerful stunt that went wrong.”
They ATTACKED!? Wow. How many in that news room have attacked other drivers in traffic with their car I wonder?

So will they get charged with negligence?
After all, if a 30.06 leaves my house and hits another I’d get charged with that.
And Mythbusters may have to close shop as their insurance company won’t cover them anymore at the least.

And if I let a round fly “by accident” while out of battery and it goes over the berm and hits a house…I get charged.
And their “don’t try this at home”..needs to be changed to “Don’t let the cops do this.”
I bet they stop using the bomb range as a gun range now.

Jesus Its crazy to see how much damage that thing did even after traveling like 700 yards just to make it to the home.
