“Atrocious function”? They make holes in stuff. What that stuff is, is entirely under the control of the user. Neat stuff, pity the writer is an airhead.

Um I’d say the functionality is what defines the object as a gun. If it can’t send small metal bits flying at high velocity, it ain’t really a gun. No metal bits, just a noise maker. No noise, just a paper weight.
