Envelopes

Ordered two small trigger parts. Look at all that packaging.

That’s probably why Brownells shipping costs always seem a little high.

Had a savage 93r17 come in wednesday, the outer box was 60″l x 24″w x 8″d ! For a 40″ long, 5lb .17hmr rifle. There where so many pink packing peanuts inside, I had star trek tribble flashbacks. 🙂

    Raped on shipping costs..

Kinda like Newegg. There is some inverse paradigm at that companies shipping locations. The smaller the order, the bigger the box.

I needed a handful of shotgun parts from Numrich. Each part was bagged, the bags were stapled to the receipt, ans the whole thing placed in an envelope. It was kinda nice not to get $40 worth of packing wrapped around $10 worth of parts.

  6. Linoge Says:

That seems to be the smallest package Brownells offers. If you watch American Guns, they use them as “bit drawers” like you see in garages and whatnot.

  7. Ellen Says:

If the part is too small, it can easily get lost. The same goes for the box it is in. And maintaining a less diverse inventory of boxes saves costs. I can see almost any company keeping half-a-dozen sizes of boxes around that’ll fit the things they sell, even if the box you end up with is a bit large. You don’t want the box to get too small.

At least you get a reusable box — or you would have, if you had not treated it so savagely.
    😉

    1. $24 for second day shipping on most things is pretty cheap.

    2. I’ve had small parts shipped to me (not by brownells) in an envelope. I got the envelope ok but there were two holes in the envelope and no parts inside.

It does seem like a lot of packaging, but it’s a hawk of a lot better than not getting your parts when you expect them. Never had anything go wrong with a delivery from Brownells, and I order from them almost weekly.

Recently, at a Certain Party’s urging, I went on over to the NRA gift store and bought a batch of plastic bags.

Bet you’d like to know what they came packed in.

If you order foam peanuts, do they ship in ceramic jars?

You should see CDW packaging for Microsoft licenses. Each license (read: sheet of paper) comes in its own cardboard envelope, and then CDW puts a maximum of 5 in a box with packing peanuts/air pillows. I’ve had to order a couple hundred licenses at once before. It sure looked like I was getting a lot of equipment.

I ordered this a couple of weeks ago. The box it came in was 18″x12″x3″, and filled with those air-filled plastic shipping cushions.

For a six inch length of cable.

The other one came in a small padded envelope.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
