Why the new Mustang is limited to 112MPH
I was impressed with the new 2011 V6 Mustangs. They could hang with tactical car up to 110mph, unless they had to turn. Well, some one took the limiter off their new Mustang and, at 135MPH, the drive shaft fell out.

If by “fell out” you mean “failed catastrophically” they yes.

Holy crap that will wake you up…

Planes have dive limits and RPM limits, so why not cars? I suggest if one want’s a ‘tactical’ car, one gets one. I bet they have a heavier drive shaft made for going 135 mph.

“Fix Or Repair Daily.” Now, if you had an old Dodge Charger from the 60’s, that would never happen…..; )

In fact, reading the article, they do.
I do have to admit though that the first thing I thought of was the ambulance we have that is limited from the factory to 75mph. It has nothing to do with safety, the mechanics, or the handling. It’s (supposedly) because the company that makes them has to meet NFPA standards, which (as I understand it) set a blanket cap of 75mph for all apparatus, based on much larger fire trucks.
The upshot being that as I was responding to a wreck the other day, we were just managing to keep up with traffic. We could only pass people if they actually pulled over for us. If we were to take that truck on the interstate, we would actually be slowing traffic down if we ran code.

Is this like complaining when your over clocked CPU or graphics card fails?

@TomcatTCH
Yeah, by disabling/raising the temperature limit and not putting in an appropriate fan and heatsink for the increased heat generated.
The limiter would have saved him, if only he didn’t disable it lol. Sounds like he knew just enough to get into trouble.

Man, I was on a school bus one time as a kid when the driveshaft fell off. Of course, we weren’t going quite 135, but still an experience.

I must have rented a GT in Vegas.
(I’ll have to check the statute of limitations in a few states before I say more.)

“unless they had to turn”
Unc, Do yourself a favor and don’t go to any track days, or the like, unless you suddenly want to feel bad about your luxobarge
December 21st, 2011 at 11:10 am
Track days should be mandatory. And you should have to do them in Dodge Neons. When I used to do them I can’t tell you how many hot shots in their big exhaust tip imports and Vettes found themselves in the sand or worse because they mistook car for skill and wanted to let ‘er rip.
A rentacar 4 banger takes the ego out of it so you can focus on, you know, driving.
It’s the same reason you start with a .22 at the range with a newb shooter and save the .40SW subcompact and the 12ga for when they’ve got some muscle memory.

I have an 06 GT conv. I’ve had it over 110, up to around 120.
It was very smooth. The only reason I didn’t keep going faster was because I was on the NYS thruway and I came up to traffic. Not sure how fast it can go, but I intend finding out in the desert. (this story is probably not true if NY police are reading this, just bragging on the intertubes)
It has the same HP as the 2011 6-cyl (around), but I think it has a lot more torque. It’s just over 300 HP and just over 300 ft-lbs of torque.

Did you hear how much that thing was vibrating after about 125.I know the thing had a governor on it but to catastrophically fail like that at only 20 m.p.h. over the limit is kinda odd.Or to even start showing signs at only 13 m.p.h. over limit very strange.
