The best way to deal with an enraged dog is pepper spray.
It is what the posties use. Stops them dead. Makes them run away from posties afterwards.
Seriously, the stuff is astoundingly effective on dogs. And a heck of a lot easier/safer to use than trying to target a dog that is chewing on you with a pistol.
