Celebratory gunfire?

That’s my guess:

A McMinn County man was killed in an apparent shooting accident while ringing in the new year, according to authorities.

The victim, Jeffery Watson, 48, was celebrating at about midnight Sunday outside his County Road 20 home in Calhoun when a shotgun being fired nearby exploded, according to McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy.

A second shotgun at the scene. Perhaps someone loaded the wrong ammo.

  1. This is relevant to my interests Says:

    12 gauge + 20 gauge + 24 icehouse + celebratory rule 4 violations = death by exploded shotgun?

Regardless of the actual cause, I really wish the ’20 gauge stuck in the 12 gauge forcing cone’ issue was better known.

test conducted on spare 870 barrel –

a 20 ga shell absolutely will fit inside of a 12 ga bbl far enough to chamber and fire a 2-3/4 12ga shell behind it. The brass rim makes a perfect fit obstruction, and will not simply “fall” out (even tapping the barrel on the work-bench). It has to be knocked out with a dowell or cleaning rod to clear the obstruction.

If someone unknowingly managed to feed a 20ga into a 12 ga gun, it *will* be bad.

    I didn’t know glock made a .40 caliber shotgun

The first thing in my mind was a 12/20 burst.

    Or mud in the barrel
