On Romney

Ian:

Been seeing a lot of stuff in my twitter feed and my RSS feed about how people want to “send a message” to the Republican Party, or that Romney is “just like Obama” or some other such nonsense to justify staying home on the second Tuesday in November, 2012.

What are you all, out of your minds?!?!

This is an election season much like the Carter re-election one: vote the syphylitic camel if necessary to get the current occupant out of office.

Me, I like camels, and antibiotics are available.

  2. Weer'd Beard Says:

Trust me, I lived under Romney, Obama is BETTER.

    Do some homework people.

Liberal president who barely managed to pass Obamacare with a supermajority under him.

Vs, A RINO governor (But in this state he was often called a “Ultra Right-Wing Republican) in a state that is devoid of Republicans who wrote and passed Obamacare, banned Assault Weapons, and signed a Judicially Legislated Gay Marrage into law (I like. Gay marrage, but it would have never become law here if done legally, rather than claiming John Adams always thought two dudes should always get married) not to mention a smattering of other anti-freedom and anti-buisness laws and amendments.

Obama hates freedom, but he’s lazy and doesn’t like to get his hands dirty to eradicate it.

Romney hates freedom, and he’s very goal oriented, and won’t be content to bow to forign leaders, and bad-mouth America in exotic locations.

If you don’t fear President Romeny, you simply aren’t paying attention!

  3. eemdfl Says:

Actually what this is is the stupid party proving once again how stupid they are; having once again pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.
And socialists/eco-communists everywhere are celebrating. It’s a win-win for them. Obama wins they win; Oromney wins they win only a little more slowly.
Prediction – Oromney will lose and conservatives(as usual) will be blamed for the loss.

  4. Maxpwr Says:

“These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.” ~ Mitt Romney, July 1, 2004.

The Brady Campaign couldn’t have said it better or looked better doing it than Mitt.

That said, I will vote for him if he is the nominee for one reason and one reason only – I think he MIGHT be better on judges.

  5. Bubblehead Les Says:

Something hit me, and I posted it over at Ian’s, but it’s something to think about. Just WHEN is everyone’s State Primary? Heck, Iowa and New Hampshire got 6-7 candidates to pick from. A couple of months from now, it may be down to Romney and (Fill in the Blank). Hell, there may not BE anyone to pick but Romney by then.

Yeah, we can send money to other campaigns, but Romney can spend all his own money and wipe out the Republican Field, and then what?

I just don’t see this batch of Republitards wiping out Romney and his Big Bucks.

It Sucks, but until there’s a Constitutional Amendment forcing all the 50 States and the Territories to have Primaries on one day, soon enough half of the registered Republican Voters can stay home until November.

Well, maybe we’ll have a close one, but something tells me by May, it’ll be Romney vs Obama vs a 3rd.Party Spoiler.

Where did I put my Pepto?

  6. JKB Says:

Romney’s the Republican Al Gore, he’s an empty vessel. Vote him in to get Obama out but vote in a Tea Party Congress to set the agenda.

And if Romney/Republicans turn out to be same old big government usurpers, the Tea Party will be better prepared to create a viable third party in 2016.

  7. Calm Gun Says:

This is a brutal choice to have to make. I’m not even sure Romney would appoint Justices who would read the constitution any better than Obama. Still, I’d rather have Obama out.

  8. Bobby Says:

Honestly, after this, I don’t even think I’m Republican anymore.

They keep saying how we need to get behind Romney or Gingritch to make sure Obama gets out of office, while ignoring Paul, the only candidate that that has any chance to beat him.

This situation has made it obvious. They, now without a doubt, are simply playing off the fears of Obama and the left just to get their brand of the left into office.
I was a hardcore Repub before this. I was brought up that way and belived in it. I voted Bush (my first election), then McCain.

The Republicans have nothing to do with ‘conservitism’ anymore.
They’ve already lost, and its convinced me they don’t care for America, so they have lost me.

  9. Steve Says:

I am disheartened by the defeatism that I’m seeing from my side this early even though it seems to be a constant theme on the right.
I think that we underestimate how unpopular Obama is. The real unemployment rate is about 11 percent; if you add in folks working part time who want to work full time, it’s about 15 percent. I don’t expect it to be much better 10 months from now. The myth of his high intellect and Lincolnesque oratorical skill are exposed as the media created lies that they are. He is a terrible salesman for his ideas; he is a dull, plodding bag of cliché’s. He is intellectually lazy and a weak debater. Hillary routinely cleaned his clock 4 years ago. The youth vote is disillusioned and will not turn out this year. Obama now has a record to run on an he is widely viewed as a failure.
Let’s face it; Obama’s election was a moment of mass hysteria akin to the princess Di funeral. Americans had their moment of catharsis and now the unhappy reality has set in.
Romney has plenty of weaknesses but he also has strengths. Romney is squeaky clean. Romney looks and sounds like a plausible president. He has the hair. He has the resume. Ultimately, that may be all it takes to make people feel comfortable with replacing Obama.
My guess is that we are going to spend the next ten and a half months rending our garments, only to be surprised to find on election night that Obama has lost in a landslide.

  10. Bobby Says:

I was disheartened when I realized Romney was going to be shoved down our throats.

The youth is disillusioned on both sides. Why would they vote for a less charismatic, race-cardless (‘cred’-less?) Obama look-a-like?

The issue here, is if Obama looses in a landslide to Romney, Its still a loss to anyone who knows what “conservitive” or “liberty” means. What a bummer.

  11. Ian Argent Says:

If it was just Obama, I probably wouldn’t worry so much about it; as noted, he’s lazy, &c. But he appoints non-lazy people. From where I sit, he has appointed people in the active/stupid quadrant, and that’s why we need him out.

  12. Steve Says:

Romney is not being shoved down anyone’s throat. He is currently winning a democratic process. He’s very far from my ideal candidate, but my ideal candidate is not running this year and has not run since 1984.
I never thought that I’d advocate voting for someone with Romney’s record on guns. Four years ago, much to the consternation of some of my friends, I swore I wouldn’t vote for president if Giuliani was the nominee but three years of Obamanomics has changed my mind.
The youth vote never comes out. 2008 was an exception that will not be repeated. This year the young will go back to doing what they usually do on Election Day…bong hits.
I do not dispute that President Romney will disappoint us more often than not but he will be under tremendous pressure to deliver real conservative judges, especially on the Supreme Court. Justice Harriet Miers never happened thanks to that pressure.
He will have to pick a very reliable conservative for a running mate, hopefully someone who can be set up to succeed President Romney in 8 years.
Romney is also not running for king of America, he will be working with a more conservative congress than we have now. Which candidate do you think offers us a better chance to get conservative things done, Romney or Obama?
Which candidate offers us a better chance of getting foreign policy right? And I think that the only way to get the economy moving again is to retire Obama. He is an albatross dragging the country down. Capital will start moving again the minute he becomes a lame duck.
These debates are very healthy and I enjoy participating in them but the democrats never worry about this stuff. They think about one thing: amassing and keeping political power. Power over us. We need to remember who the real enemies of freedom are in this country and worry about stripping them of their power this year. That is the first step to turning this country around.

  13. ATLien Says:

Why shouldn’t they stay home on the second Tuesday in November?

    That’s not election day.

  14. Cormac Says:

I don’t see a whole lot of difference between the two…their philosophies may differ, and the justification for what they want, but in the end, the execution of their desires is too damn similar.

Right now we have Obama with a WEAK Speaker opposing him in the house…Imagine Romney with a House full of “Republicans” just itching to pass the same crap legislation as the Dems.

I would prefer a little gridlock in my politics. If it comes down to Romney vs. Obama, I would sooner vote for the guy facing a likely impeachment over some smuggling and accessory to murder issues, and just hope that the people we put in the House and Senate have the balls to stand up to him.

  15. Divemedic Says:

Not voting for Romney. No way, no how. I will vote for anyone but him, even Obama. At least with Obama in the white house, partisan politics will keep left wing agenda off the table.

  16. Bobby Says:

Steve, Of course he is. Haven’t you seen the bias with the various mainstream media outlets? I mean c’mon, CNN picked Romney as our winner 5 months ago.

“Romney is also not running for king of America, he will be working with a more conservative congress than we have now.”
Funny, This is the perfect debate for Ron Paul.

As for the Bong hits comment, I resent that sir. I mean, if you want to play off a huge part of the voting block as fools, go right ahead.

  17. Chris L. Says:

I’ve said some of the same things about Mitt. I am not a fan and as our humble host once said “I would jab a hot poker in my eye before voting for him”. That being said, rest assured, I WILL vote for whoever (even Mitt) runs against the current guy in the oval office. Even a hot poker protruding from my eye socket would be better than four more years of Obama.

  18. Steve Says:

    CNN? Who watches CNN?
By my count, 53% of American voters are fools. Exibit A – Barack Obama.
On inauguration day, Ron Paul will be 77 years old, the same age as Ronald Reagan, our oldest president, was when he left office.
If it takes bong hits to make voting for Mitt tolerable, my advice to you Bobby is to do whatever it takes to get you through it. Trust me, when you you watch Obama give his concession speech, it will all be worth it.

  19. ATLien Says:

Til he wants to ban guns, but this time it’ll be ok cause it’s a guy with an R after his name doing it.

Be careful what you wish for…

  20. Will Says:

Not voting for a RINO ever again. If the Stupid Party wants to continue down that failure road, they can try it without me. And I’m not alone in thinking this way.

I think part of the current problem, is that smart people are looking at the near future and saying that it can’t be fixed quick enough to make me look good, so I’m not going to run for office right now, I’ll let someone else take the hit.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
