SigSauer P224
From Sig (broke all of my rules for gunternet marketing), comes the 224:
SIG SAUER has officially introduced the P224, the first true subcompact in its classic line. Based on the P229, this pistol has all the features of a classic SIG, with one small change.
More than 80% of federal law enforcement carries a SIG SAUER. For these officers, the P224 makes a natural choice for backup or off-duty CCW. For the large percent that carry newer model P229s, their magazines will work in the P224.

I love Sigs.

Why, at 25.4oz, is this considered a subcompact? It’s heavier than my P232 which is not a subcompact. It’s longer and it’s only a hair shorter in height. It’s much bigger than the P238 which is probably more properly called a subcompact, or is there some kind of specialized terminology simply because of the caliber?

My problem with these new compacts and sub-compacts is that they shrink the wrong dimensions. I have an M&P 9mm compact and while its short from back to front and top to bottom, it’s still a fat little biotch. For me, this is the least desirable situation. I prefer a single stack that has a longer barrel and longer grip.

Just checked the Sig site. Double stacked, starting out in .40 S+W, but it’ll be 10+1; 9mm will be later; Aluminum Framed, Steel Slide, MSRP over $1,100.
They MUST plan on selling them to the Federales, right? I mean, why else make something that looks like it was done in the ’90s, and costs a lot more than new Glocks, Smiths, Rugers, Springfields, etc.
Or a M-4 Clone.
Sigh! I wish these German Gun Manufacturers would get it through their heads that the Economy Sucks. Gotta be something to do with the declining value of the Euro.

Well, I fully expected to be the only one to post a snarky “WHY? FOR THE LOVE OF BROWNING, WHY?!” comment, but I am glad to see I’m not the only one who sees this as stupid. The grip is too small and that little girl is too fat. Champagne tastes, too. I like thin guns with grips I can hold and meaningful barrel lengths, and as noted by Skyler, would sooner carry my 232 than one of these. My main complaint has always been the width of full sized guns, not the lengths. Why don’t the manufacturers realize this?

The Euro has very little to do with it…other than the frame, the rest of the guns are made six miles down the road from me here in New Hampshire.
Carrying one 229 for work and another for personal use (along with a 226), I’d jump at the chance to buy a 224 in 9mm, and will wait for one. Some of us with large hands just love the little fat guns, and I really like this idea over the 290, which does absolutely nothing for me, or the 239, which is only marginally smaller than the 229.
Why spend twice what a Glock 26 would be? It’s not a Glock. I won’t knock Glocks and know plenty who love them – heck, if 30 years ago I started using Glocks instead of Sigs, I’d be carrying Glocks now. But no, and as there is a market for the 224, it will get made, and it will sell.

My P226 (Elite Stainless) is a great pistol– the SRT trigger in particular is outstanding– BUT:
This P224 is:
~ 1/4″ taller than a G26/27;
.16″ longer than the Glocks;
.12″ wider;
weighs nearly 6 oz more; and
costs nearly 3x the baby Glocks.
I’m just sayin’ that for a backup or when I’m wanting a little primary, I’m carrying the G26.

And it is fugly..

“More the 80% of federal law enforcement carries a sig”, but most federal offices are protected by contractors who carry Glocks. When it’s somebody else’s neck on the line, Sig is good enough. When it comes to protecting themselves, hire a guy with a Glock.

I am not against hiring a man with a Glock. That being said, if you could cross a Sig, say a https://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p238-lady.aspx, with a CZ 82. What do you get?

Omigosh Jerry. “Lady of The Evening,” maybe. Fine concept, good specs, but that ‘paintjob’! Do they think women will like that? Those are some lonely guys, I’d bet. Frankly I’d be embarrassed to be shot by it.
Throw in a Dremel and some DuraKote, and I’m in.

I like compact double-stack pistols, so I kinda like this. I’d never buy it, or another new production Sig, thanks to Ron Cohen’s antics, but I enjoy seeing a new double stack compact on the market.
My only gripe (besides the fact the thing will probably start breaking parts after 5,000 rounds.) is the beavertail. looks really hard to get a good, high grip on the thing, compared to m&p compact models, or Glock subcompact models. Looks like it would be awfully hard to control, especially in .40. Perhaps the all-metal construction will help a little with that, but it’s only about 4oz heavier than an m&p compact.
