Just yesterday had this in the Asheville NC paper. Full of errors and outright lies. He’s already received a proper fisking in the comments.

Whoops. That was the article he was mentioning… I’m in Asheville so that was the first thing that popped into my mind. I figured that the newspapers had circulated the story amongst themselves and that there were many of them running the same type of article.

So it seems to me in case after case there will be a factual report in a small blog, which is picked up by the big blogs, which is then discussed thoroughly for a week or a month or a year. Then some time late, say on a slow news day, some reporter will find the same item in a blog, use it as his or her own exciting new finding without attribution, and the cycle begins again in main stream media.
Only because the issue has already been well researched and reported by blogs, the lazy reporter’s late report will be seen as incomplete, biased, lacking important details added by bloggers, or just badly written.
That the comment writers know enough to tear this report a new orifice seems to confirm the above news trajectory.
Why do the reporters think they can do such shoddy work, and when will they start using Google or Bing to look at more than one blog post for their stories?

Major Caudill even made an appearance!! I’d add a correcting comment, but the comments are via Facebook, and I deleted my account.
