They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.
Part of me says it’s Good that he didn’t get Special Treatment, just because he’s an Employee of the Citizens of Kentucky, but part of me says anything to cut down on the TSA is a good thing.
They (apparently) never detained him, just refused to allow him to pass, or to go back through the scanner. Stupid, but not as stupid as his camp made it out to be.
The Pro-life march is a red herring. He was on his way to DC. He would attend a session before he came back. Therefore, he was travelling to a session. The end.
TSA really stepped on their dick here. The SCOTUS is generally loathe to get in between the other two branches on a political dispute, but this is one where if they don’t protect Congressional immunities, THEIR immunities are on the block next.
As much as I hate the recent developments in airport “security”, I feel sorry for most Senators. They didn’t ask for any of this, they probably realize just how pointless their work is, and every man and his dog now hates their ass.
Aside from a couple of perverts (who are to be found pretty much everywhere), most of these guys get to choose between rolling with the entire thing against their choosing or losing their job.
…
and seriously, where are you going to go if the TSA doesn’t let you on a plane!?
I think he was probably targeted for being a white male moreso than being Rand Paul. They have qoutas to fill to show they aren’t targeting protected classes.
In regard to response 3. No animals are more equal than others. I want the TSA dismantled because they are a power-hungry bloated government cluster designed to act as permanant welfare for those lacking critical thinking or enough of a personality to work retail.
No govt immunity, no TSA, and someone PLEASE stop Adam Sandler from making any more movies!
Apparently he sas told he was being detained and was, but the TSA is claiming he wasn’t. He is saying on Hannity that he was told by several TSA managers that the scanner would randomly beep to indicate it was time for a random search even if it detected nothing suspicious. Also, if it “picks” you, you have to submit to a pat down or they escort youfrom the premises…which is what happened.
junyo, the result was he had to get a later flight. That is absolutely counter to the law quoted by “the comedian”. If he missed a vote, the whole TSA group he dealt with is absolutely toast, if he wants to push it.

In fact, what TSA did couldn’t get much more counter to that part of the Constitution without either actually throwing him in jail overnight, or putting out a press release saying “we detained him specifically to prevent him from voting on Bill X.”

I hate to say it, but I wonder about that. The Constitution may specifically prohibit what they did, but is there any actual penalty set anywhere in federal law? Heck, if not, they could end up with nothing worse than a reprimand in their personnel files.
Any other person would have been arrested if they hadn’t consented to the gate-rape. You’re not allowed to leave the screening area without being screened unless, apparently, you’re a US Senator.

Either gonna be “Those poor, poor, TSA agents,” or “Gulag time!”

Well, since I have no sympathy for the
stormtroopersTSA agents, I’m hoping for “gulag time”.January 23rd, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Too bad he wasn’t going back to DC for an active session of the Senate.

Just some advise to TSA employees…. you may want to freshen the resume. We may actually see a federal program dismantled in my lifetime.

The Comedian – http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/rand-paul-in-pat-down-standoff-with-tsa-in-nashville/
“The Senate is back in session today at 2 p.m., with votes scheduled at 4:30 p.m.”

Doesn’t say where he was flying to. If it was to DC, the TSA has explaining to do.

Freiheit – Interesting.
The linked-to article says “Paul was flying to Washington D.C., to speak at a March for Life rally, according to his Facebook page.”
