Spartanburg County Councilman Michael Brown does not support shooting rapists
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright, after a spate of rapes in the community, encouraged women to get a handgun carry permit and fight back. Good for him. However, Councilman Michael Brown (D-ranged) wants him to stop doing that because:
I would say to continue to advocate for the instrumentalities of violence is contrary to a large group of people in this community,” Brown said during Monday’s meeting. “The fact that you see me standing up here, I represent that segment of this community, the community that often times you will find yourself dealing with in a negative manner.
Unless you’re saying you represent rapists, I’m kind of at a loss here. That or you’re a moron. Guns are not “instrumentalities of violence”, they are tools for stopping violence.

They have a mall in Spartanburg, SC named WestGate though it has become more infamously known as WestRape mall….

Sounds like someone is playing the “Reverse Race Card.” Must be an Election Year.

I would note that the County Sheriff is making suggestions as regarding the PEOPLE of his county, recommending that the citizens in his district fight back. The Councilman, on the other hand, is more worried about the ‘instrumentalities’ (which is one of those words that you think makes you sound smart, but instead sounds like you’re making up words). In other words, blame the tool, not the user. Its much easier, obviously, to control ‘the instrumentalities of violence’ than the instrumentalities of rape. If all guns are made for killing, when are they going to say what THAT thing is for; and subsequently try to ban it?

I read the comment thread over there. Council Member Wright just stepped in to a large steaming pile of manure. I don’t think he will find a pony in it, either, no matter how far down he digs.

Council member BROWN.

Apparently, Councilman Brown’s constituents feel they or their sons are more likely to be rapists and are therefore at risk.
You know, you can work with at-risk youth all you want but one surefire way to prevent them from crime is to raise the personal risk to them. Most will choose wisely, the others meet natural selection, but by their own choice.

What is he saying here? The quote seems…garbled. Is he saying “I represent rapists” or “I represent people who are willing victims of rapists”? If you’re a willing victim is it rape at all?
Whatever. Don’t rape girls, you might get shot.

It’s the whole Sullivan thing from NY, protect your homies.

If he want’s to remove the instrumentality of rape then he’ll have the positivity and beneficiality of a bunch of large chubby guys who can sing soprano in the community choir.
January 26th, 2012 at 2:19 pm
Maybe he’s afraid he’e gonna get shot.
January 26th, 2012 at 2:21 pm
You know I meant “he’s”. Right?
January 26th, 2012 at 2:51 pm
Lets just say all the folks around here had already armed themselves. The sheriff just said what everyone else already thought.

Tar. Feathers. Castration. Crooked stinking politician.
Assembly required.

Guns are not “instrumentalities of violence”, they are tools for stopping violence.
The former is false*. The latter is sometimes true**.
Remember, if we think as closely as we should, “violence” is not what is bad; what is bad is violence without justification.
If a woman shoots a would-be rapist, that is “violence” – it’s just violence we applaud, and rightfully so, as it is completely justified and righteous.
The idea to be fought is not just that “guns only do ill”, but that “violence is wrong” – there’s certainly history of using the word like that, to describe only “bad” force, but there’s far too much conflation for it to be accepted without caveat as the essence of the word.
Wrongs are wrongs, and rights are rights – violence can be in either camp, depending on who and what and why.
(* False in context; a gun is not inherently such an instrument, but in the context of a shooting, even the Best defensive one in the world, it is. In another context, such as target shooting, it is not.
** Likewise, guns can be a tool for stopping the violence of others, with either their own violence or its implicit or explicit threat. But just as above, what it’s a tool for depends on how you’re using it.)

I’m guessing he’s saying that he represents blacks. But to say that blacks don’t advocate the use of violence – and indeed, act on this belief! – is laughably preposterous.
So dude, YES YOU DO represent the segment of the community (blacks) that advocates for the instrumentalities of violence.
I guess it’s OK to advocate criminal violence but not to advocate shooting violent criminals.

“The way you get shot by a concealed weapons permit holder is you point a gun at him,” -Sheriff Wright
If you didn’t see this story already, here’s the link to my analysis of the Waffle House robbery in Spartanburg that was thwarted by a CWP holder.
The above quote is Sheriff Wright’s summary of the would-be robbery.

Michael Brown is a twit. The law says you can get a concealed weapons permit. People are following the law by attending an 8 hour course and qualifying and he still calls them irresponsible and untrained. This is a typical Obama class Liberal people. Remember in November. I would like to read a story about Michael Brown being raped.

Councilman Brown is a prime example of what is wrong with liberal politicians. Not only is his logic pitiful, but his lack of respect for the Constitution is typical of all “Nanny State” liberals. The best response to these politicians is to vote them out of office and banish them to perpetual residence in a maximum security federal prison — where they can “feel secure” among a gun-less felon population! Lots of luck!

It’s really a shame people like Councilman Brown really believe taking guns from law abiding citizens will stop crime. The more of us who legally carry won’t stop crime either, but it sure will make criminals think twice. Those of us who belong to the NRA understand we will have liberals like Brown making statements against our Second Amendment Rights, but we also have the right to vote them out of office. This years Presidential election is very important. Obama and his followers must go. Good Citizens like Sheriff Wright remind us of our Rights.

Councilman Brown is an idiot. This is obvious from his creation of a new word (“irreprehensible”) used in his statement blasting legal carry. I consider the danger posed by semi-literate uninformed politicians a thousand times greater than that posed by peace loving Americans. Learn to read, mister Brown. Then exercise that ability.
Perhaps then you will be qualified to perform the duties of your elected office responsibly.
