I misread a multi-year total as a single year. It seemed high to me as well, but I saw the same numbers from two sources; I just made the same misread both times.
For the last ten years the number has been between 117 and 175 total killed in the line, with about 1/3 of those killed by gunfire. However, the number killed by their own guns, has been fairly consistent at about 1/8 of those killed by gunfire.

I think some of his numbers are off. The number of officers killed has been under 200 for over 20 years. Somehow, his figues are double that.
