Gun show notes
Yesterday, I took my nephews to the gun show. They had a good time ogling and handling all sorts of shooty and stabby things. At one point, we saw two KPD officers escorting a man out in handcuffs. Turns out that the genius stole a gun from a dealer then re-entered the show to sell it. And the dealer he took it from, in an unrelated incident, managed to shoot himself in the hand.
What a weird one.

And CPS wasn’t called on you???

“And the dealer he took it from, in an unrelated incident, managed to shoot himself in the hand.”
UNPOSSIBLE!
No loaded guns in gun shows!

A friend of mine and me were standing at the table (of the guy who shot himself) looking at a Sig when the perp stole a Ruger 357 off his table. My friend saw the guy fiddling with the ruger and holding it “suspiciously” near his chest while the dealer was at the other end of the table.
Then we went back to looking at the sig when and my friend decided to buy it. While the dealer was running the background check, he noticed the ruger was gone. My friend remembered seeing the “meth head dude” messing with it and went to get the police. The perp was still at the show, and while the cop my friend told was approaching him from one side, another cop was approaching him from the other because ANOTHER dealer suspected him of stealing a 22. They caught the guy with a couple of pistols. He was trying to sell them to other dealers.
He did NOT have any significiant amount of cash on him, and he didn’t have the Ruger, so they are not sure what happened to it. They think he ditched it or carried it out of the show before returning. There was about 20 minutes between the time that my friend and I saw him with the Ruger and the cops spotting him. Turns out he was a convicted felon, so he had that going for him.
My friend called me this morning to tell me that the same dealer shot himself later. I bet the dealer wishes he stayed at home.
I think my friend got a good deal from him through. Sig 250C in 357 Sig with night sights for $420 out the door. I told him what you all say about Sig 250’s, but he wanted to try it anyway.

So, a metal detector to the fairgrounds?
January 30th, 2012 at 2:55 pm
You know, the metal detector may be needed, the shows have been lively lately. A few months back at the Expo Center show, there was a fight that broke out, then a month later at the Jacod Building show, I saw a near fight between a “sawed-off” biker type, and a “sawed-off Napolean” type who used to the the organizer of the show.
For the record, I would have backed M.H., and not the short biker…though, being among them, I felt like Gulliver.

Does having a gun stolen at a gun show jeopardize the federal firearms license?
January 30th, 2012 at 3:01 pm
I saw the fight at the Expo show. It was unseemly.
And HL is Gulliveresque. Shaquille has nothing on this asshole.

Wow what a day for that dealer.Atleast he got the gun back. But got a medical bill to pay.

No Tim, the dealer who shot himself didn’t get his gun back. At least not that I have heard. His was the Ruger 357 that couldn’t be located. So his day still sucked. Classic example of “from bad to worse”.
Drake, as discussed, the near fight between the biker and M.H. reminded me of a scene from “Time Bandits”.

Did I miss the “stop touching it” suggestion? Either I missed it or Uncle is slipping.

Was it a beloved GP100?
January 30th, 2012 at 4:17 pm
Why I no longer go to gun shows. Fist fights, bandits, shootings, tsk tsk!
Auctions are so much more refined. (not)

I need to move to Tenn.

Totally off-topic of this post, but this was a cool CCW story (link to a facebook post):

“I need to move to Tenn.”
Dude, it’s not just Tennessee. Stupid crap happens at gun shows all over the country.
No gun show in the USA has a monopoly on stupid.

One in Indianapolis had an AD because, apparently, there was some douchenozzle going around the show loading .22LRs. Probably some anti that was looking to stir some shit.

Given the positive press that Bloomberg’s little crusade is receiving locally in the news these days(Glenn Reynolds fine piece in contrast) and the parrotted whine about background checks and “loopholes” it wouldn’t surprise me that this meth addled felon is either a plant or actually believed gun shows are chaos incarnate like the dipshit media is telling the masses.

Gee, up here it’s a Big Deal if the Deer Jerky guy doesn’t show. Sounds like I’m missing all the Fun.

Never heard of that kind of thing at Bog Town here in Mesquite Tx. Now at Market Hall a dealer did have his custom .45 go off in his tool box. And since there was a 30.06 sign he was in deep do-do.
No metal detectors down here but so far no real problems.

Dude, it’s not just Tennessee. Stupid crap happens at gun shows all over the country.
A shooting and a robbery at one show. I’ve been to shows all over and have never seen both at one show. Like I said, I gotta move to Tenn.

First, I don’t want metal detectors at shows, I was joking about saying it was justified.
Second, there wasn’t a robbery, just shoplifting. In a “robbery” the assialant steals property under threat of violence. This asswipe just pilfered loose guns while no one was looking.

In Kali the dealers at shows have an alarm wire that runs through the trigger guard of all handguns that can be reached by the public. Unplug or cut it and you get a buzzer response. Don’t know if it is mandated by promoter or others. Still, the occasional gun goes missing, I hear.
