82 year old man shoots burglar, gets cool points for using a Tokarev (which the press can’t spell).
64 year old woman holds suspect at gun point with .38 revolver, does that posing for the press thing we just talked about.
Say you use your gun defensively, to some fanfare from the press who wants to tell your tale. Great. But let’s reconsider posing with our guns for the press. I’m rather a fan of Tam’s rule of stop touching it. I think it’s better if we kept our guns where they belong, in the holsters. I’m certain the press goads people into such poses but, then, relative safety goes from 100% to some number less than that.
Explain to the eager reporter why as nicely as possible.
This isn’t the first time.
An AR-15 that takes Glock 21 magazines. Are pistol caliber carbines the new hotness again? That was so four years ago, I thought.
In Illinois:
The number of people licensed to own guns in Illinois jumped by more than 78,500 last year, possibly fueled by a belief the state was poised to legalize the concealed carry of weapons.
There ought to be a law.
Lawmaker proposes banning food made from fetuses, as though such a thing is really a problem.
We don’t win so much as they just lose. Also, ddbaxte in comments says:
I’ve said it several times before, we’ve got the best and the brightest on our side, and they’ve got people like that.
Heh.
Steve reviews the earplugs. Interesting and, I’m sure, more comfortable than my various muff style hearing protection. But at $450 a pair, that will buy a lot of other things.
Issa’s letter to Eric Holder over Fast and Furious and pleading the fifth.
A bit back, one police officer was killed and a homeowner injured when the police performed one of their ninja raids trying to find a marijuana grow operation. To my knowledge, there has been no release that they actually found drugs. Anyway, a judge has sealed all the warrants that were issued.
Since a few asked, I was doing some site clean up yesterday and noticed the blogroll that I hadn’t tended to in years was out of date with some bad links. Being one to use a shotgun for a housefly, I killed the whole thing and never got back around to it. I’ll get it done sometime soon. Based on emails and a comment, a few of you use that to read other blogs. Who knew those worked?
A new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll reports that 85% of respondents believe that the second amendment means what it says, 15% delusional. 51% support shall issue concealed carry, which is good.
Based on that, I find this is odd: only three-in-ten respondents (30%) feel the same way about semi-automatic weapons, with a majority (61%) suggesting that only the police and other authorized persons should have access to them.
I’m guessing that means that a good portion have fallen for the anti-gun propaganda obfuscating semi-automatics and machine guns.

In Toledo, a cop’s guns were stolen. The police chief says:
The heightened concern is the bigger, larger capacity for the magazines. Police have a 15 round magazine, and the legal limit for a civilian is nine. So, there’s six more bullets,
I was unaware that Ohio limited magazine capacity to nine. I didn’t know that because it’s not true. The limit was never 9 and it has been repealed. So, unless there’s some Toledo law I’m unaware of, I’m disappointed that someone charged with enforcing the law doesn’t know the law.
I’ve been reading the Practical Guide To Everyday Carry Gear and it’s a good read. In chapter one, there’s, basically, an interview with Massad Ayoob discussing carrying firearms. The usual stuff, reiterated as Mas can, about don’t skimp on a holster and make sure you get a good stiff belt. He actually recommends the Wilderness Belt. I prefer The Best Belt, the Hellweg dress belt, or the various Galco belts because they look like belts you’d wear around the office and not a belt worn by a tacticool operator operating in operations. But back to manual safeties.
Mas stated that guns with such safeties can aid in mitigating gun grabs. Seems a study was done of people with varying degrees of gun familiarity. In the study, a gun was placed on a table and they were to pick it up and fire at a target as quickly as they could. They used two guns: a .38 revolver and a 1911. With the revolver, folks could get a shot off, on average, in just over one second. With the 1911 and it’s manual safety, the average was just shy of 17 seconds. That’s a lot of time to respond to a gun grab.
Update: I’ve never been one for manual safeties on handguns. Don’t pull the trigger, it doesn’t go bang. And I like the point and click interface.
I continued my tradition of not watching. But I read a bit of the transcripts. All the talk of working together and then With or without this Congress, I will keep taking actions that help the economy grow. Ok, then. And making it illegal to drop out of high school?
The rest was rehashed hope and same. It was more like the state of the campaign.
Meh.
Update: Yup, hope and same.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
