“A gun owner who has cleared the District’s 17 registration hurdles still isn’t home free”

Emily Miller on re-registering firearms in the district. Seems the police ‘forgot’ to send out renewal notifications, potentially making some folks criminals. I don’t see how DC’s laws can withstand a legal challenge.

DC can withstand a Legal Challenge, because they are used to Delaying Tactics in the Courts, and most of the Federal Judges that are in their Circuit are Anti-Gun. Got a Problem with DC Gun Laws? Want to take it Court? Got a few Years and lots of Money? That’s what anyone who wants to fight DC has to do. And even if they lose, DC won’t obey the Law anyway. Just look what they are still doing with Heller hanging over their heads.

Hmm – I think they would be on sound footing if they ordered everyone with a gun to show up for militia practice once a year, and collected their tracking/registration then.

Is DC forbidden to draft its residents? Seems like all sorts of onerous requirements could be tucked into a draft/militia.

Want a perfect example of why no one trusts the federal government? Look at the District in which the seat of power resides.

@SGB As corrupt and incompetent as the feds are, the local DC gov’t is an order of magnitude worse. It came out a few months ago that the DC Gov gave $300k for a ‘job training center’ for HIV carriers. The money actually went for a high dollar strip club. Google it.

  5. NAME REDACTED Says:

They have the police and they have the delaying tactics. Going against the state is /always/ fighting up-hill. Furthermore the courts will be slanted against you and it will be a hard fight. But, remember, we have the right, and that will give us strength.

That should have been under “The TSA at Work”.

    REDACTED,

    They have the police…

Ummm, did you actually read the statements printed in the article from the Chief and the head of the Police Union? The only way your leadin would be accurate would be you you added “barely still” to it.

  9. Jeff Says:

Don’t confuse the Chief with the police. That’s like confusing your Representative with…well, your representative.

The extra kick in the nuts that the article doesn’t mention is the individuals that purchased “assault weapons” right after the Heller decision and registered them with the city prior to DC putting them on the ban list. Those individuals are now expected to re-register weapons the city approved them to have, which legally the cities states they lawfully cannot have even though they initially approved them to own.

  10. Kirk Parker Says:

    Jeff,

Maybe things are different in DC, but around here it’s the LEO management and union heads that tend toward the bad side. In that kind of arena, if you’re about to lose the Chief from your side, you can be sure a solid majority of the rank and file have already abandoned you (if you ever had them in the first place.)

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
