State law and facts aside, don’t forget that Alabama is a May Issue state. If you are cited for carrying at Mardi Gras, good luck getting your permit renewed.
It is NOT illegal for the Mobile PD to ban carrying of pistols by permit holders at Mardi Gras events in Mobile.
I had a Mobile County Pistol Permit for five years. In the brochure the Sheriff gives you is cited the Alabama statute that the pistol permit does NOT allow one to carry at a public event or demonstration. To quote from the brochure that accompanied my permit as issued by Sheriff Jack S. Tillman: “Your pistol permit does not authorize you to carry a pistol at any
public gathering such as sporting events, political events, parades and etc. (Title 13A-11-59).”
Emphasis on parades, which is what Mardi Gras events are in Mobile.
Also, on the back of my permit issued by the Mobile County Sheriff was the following sentence: “Your permit can be confiscated by any Law enforcement officer for irresponsible behaviour.”
Previous Mobile County Sheriff placed a restriction that exceeded state law regarding “public demonstrations.”
The Current Mobile County Sheriff follows the letter of State Statute Law for Concealed Carry Permits and his office has announced publicly that holders of CCP may carry legally at Mobile Mardi-Gras.
Southerner: You say so… From experience, I wouldn’t carry at Mardis Gras in Mobile. Unless you were conceived in Bienville Square under an Azalea Bush during Mardi Gras, you’ll probably spend quite a bit of time under said sheriff’s gentle care if you get caught by Mobile PD while packing inside the Loop during the parades.

Anti-rights politicians breaking the law? That NEVER happens!

Don’t forget that Mayor Sam Jones, Mobile’s mayor, is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
The “no firearms at parades” policy predates him, however.
