Light up your life
Lights, lasers and low light training.
I did some low light and night shooting once at Mike’s place. One of the things that struck me was the smoke. If people are shooting enough to generate smoke and it’s dark out, your light and laser become less useful as they refract on the smoke.
Obviously, in a self defense situation, there’s probably not going to be hundreds of rounds going off to generate that sort of smoke. But I found it worth noting.

However, in an enclosed space like a bedroom, it will probably take far fewer rounds to fill with smoke.

The Fog of War is apparently not just for black powder muskets and canon!
