I have a close friend who’s a Punjabi immigrant and a gun nut.
He mentioned that his cast is the “Warrior Cast” making being a gunnie pretty logical. Also Sikhs (who are mandated to always be armed, and were notably the guys who kept the British rioters away from their shops) are from that area.
my facts are all second hand, so correct me where you can.
Also a quick scan, Bobby Jindal’s family is from that region too.
Makes a lot of sense.
When your culture sees guns for “Sporting” the .Gov quickly disarms you, when owning guns is for protection of life and upholding society, efforts to disarm look a LOT more sinister.
I thought it was against the law to sell guns (and whiskey) to Indians.
Is the Khyber in India or Pakistan or does anybody care? Because that’s where you’ll find rows of mom and pop shops hand-machining anything from Lee-Enfields to AKs.
I’ve been paying a bit of attention to Indian gun laws since the Mumbai massacre. It seems they had laws in place that made it illegal to own anything that wasn’t domestically produced by state-owned arms factories. They’re not allowed to own calibers that were used by the British military. They can’t have pistols that have a bore larger than .32 caliber, which means the biggest big bore you’re likely to legally find is the .30 Carbine Ruger Blackhawk revolver. Stuff like that. There have been a number of reforms since Mumbai, so this is all changing for the better, finally.
The article talks about people having $10k guns, but it fails to mention that it might take years and cost that much or more to do an application for a firearms permit to get a single barrel shotgun. Why would you do that when you could buy a surplus-but-illegal Soviet pistol and simply bribe the local constabulary?
They also forgot to mention one of Ghandi’s quotes: “Of all the crimes perpetrated by the British against the people of India, history will show the complete disarmament as the blackest”.

“As gun culture spreads, local governments have offered to fast-track firearms licenses if men have vasectomies.”
wow…
