As my eyes are starting to catch up with my age, and reading I’ve done into real-life shootings indicates that you physiologically won’t be able to focus on the front sight anyway when it gets hairy up close and personal, I’ve wondered about mini red-dots on pistols.

They’d have to be always on or triggered by the draw 100% reliably, though, and I’m not sure that I could afford the former in batteries, or feel like being the test subject for the latter.

I think fighting pistols with a slide mounted MRDS are the wave of the future. The trijicon RMRs seem to be holding up well in the field but I plan on waiting for the next gen of MRDS technology to come out. That being said, Caleb’s pistol is nice and I’m eager to hear reports on his experiences with it. The only change I would make would be adding a set of back up sights.

Battery life, durability and ease of activation are “mere” technology issues which are almost certainly solvable.

Look at rifle battery-powered optics, they’ve gone from “too fragile for combat” to being an issue item for every grunt in the US military, they’ve gone from “bigger than a normal scope” to small enough to fit the same models on a pistol, and they’ve gone from “eats odd-sized expensive batteries like they’re free pistachios” to battery life in the tens of thousands of hours on common AA’s.

And that’s been in what, just the past 20 years or so? Pistol optic manufacturers don’t even have to reinvent any of those wheels, just continue miniturizing the existing rifle optics.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
