Kids, AR-15s, and explosions

Fun day. Met up with Mike at his range and let four kids do some shooting. The day concluded with some Tannerite and an AR from Anderson Manufacturing:

A few things:

This is my nephew’s first shot beyond 25 yards and the first time he’d shot with a high-powered scope. And he hit first time.

Couple of notes

The new phone is awesome. So far, highly recommended.

Site will be moving to a new server at some point this weekend. Could get bumpy.

And I have a guest coming in for some shooty goodness and visiting. Blogging will be light(er than usual).

Criminal Genius

Well, OK:

Authorities say a man was arrested after he dropped his gun during a robbery and returned to the scene to try and buy it back from the victims.

Bashing v. reasoning

Look, I like you guys. I really do. But let’s have a chat. Whenever I say that I prefer a Glock/Android/9mm/Sacred cow over your 1911/iPhone/.40/Sacred cow, it’s just why I prefer it. It’s not because you suck and I hate you. The iPhone is a fine phone, .40 is a fine caliber, and the 1911 is a fine pistol. But I prefer alternatives and for different reasons. And I spell those out. You may not agree or you may find that the reasons you like whatever it is you like are more important than the reasons I like what I like.

I’m not bashing it or you. Unless you’re a hippie.

I kid. I know hippies and I like them fine.

Happy Photo

My business plan

I think drought stricken areas should pay me to drive my car there and then wash it. Guaranteed rain.

Speaking of take your daughter to the range day

Reader Peter emails:

Take Your Daughter to the Range Day June 9

Even though I retired last year and moved from Orlando to Greenville SC I’m still a member at Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. in Orlando. On Saturday March 10 we’ll be hosting our 8th annual Ladies’ Day at the Gun Range event, and for the 5th year I’ll be involved in running the Basic Handgun section. We could use a plug because we’re short on instructors (the Florida State IDPA Championship is being held in Clearwater that weekend, so a number of instructors and RSOs we counted on are attending the match and unable to help). Women will be able to try smallbore rifle, air pistol and air rifle, high power rifle (AR-15, Garand, 1903-A3, M48 Mauser), Basic Handgun (.22 LR semi-auto & revolver, 38 Special revolver, 9MM semi-auto), IPSC, IDPA, Cowboy Action and 3-Gun tactical stages, shotgun trap and archery.

I got Robb to put a plug on his blog yesterday; we need NRA-Certified Instructors and/or RSOs, USPSA/IDPA/Cowboy Action, or LE-Certified Instructor/ROs to help with Basic Handgun. We have 15 instructor spots and only 9 signed up. Last year we had over 400 women show up to participate and we expect that many again this year (to control the crowds, pre-registration is required this year, full info and registration form available at www.cfrpc.com). If you could give us a plug for any Certified Instructor types in Central Florida who want to help I’d really appreciate it. If they send us an email at ladiesdayguns-at-gmail-dot-com I’ll get right back to them.

Lend a hand if you can.

Make me a sammich

Just ordered a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich. Interesting that I go to the local Verizon store where I’ve gone for years. Turns out, the girl I’ve bought my last couple of phones from is no longer there. The new guy offers me a sale price of $299, which I though was high. The sales guy tried to talk me out of the Galaxy for a Razr Maxx. And then it was implied that because I was going to 4G, I would have to switch data plans from my grandfathered unlimited plan.

Anyway, I went to Verizon’s website and managed to get the same phone for $50 less and kept my existing plan. As a loyal customer, they even knocked my monthly fee down a little for loyalty.

Weird.

Slow to load

Seems some spammers are hammering away at a few posts. So, the load is slow. Out of my hands but the awesome folks at Hosting Matters are on it. New server coming at some point.

Yes, the offensive thing about Dance Moms is that they used fake guns as props.

I did laugh. In other news, I’m past my prime. Hey, at least I had one.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
