The biggest pitfall for CNC is COST OF EQUIPMENT!!!! Even the small machines are well beyond what hobbyists spend. Amateur machinists on the other hand find it perfectly acceptable.. A hobbyist more often then not will have a small lathe and mill that are not CNC equipped. If you design your weapon correctly it can easily be made on such devices. Mass production existed before CNC!
