For your inner cracker
There’s just something that tingles the inner redneck part of my brain when I see a Cummins turbo diesel do a quarter in 9 seconds:

The amount of power diesels can make these days is just mindblowing.
Not sure the brake mods required to make a 6000lb vehicle going that fast stop before the end of the dragstrip.

Those bog 4×4 trucks also have a tremendous traction advantage.
I have/had (at least until recently) an 04 Cobra pushing about 600hp to the ground and an F-350 Turbo Diesel 4×4.
The F-350 is pretty tough coming out of the hole, closer to the car than I liked to admit.
7k RPM redline is a bitch though. The oiler can’t hang once 3rd gear comes.
Of course, I couldn’t tow the truck to the track with the Cobra….nor the boat to the lake.

The sad thing is, judging from all the smoke, he’s got a lot more power that he could get out of that thing that is just going to waste. If he could stuff more air itno it, it would burn cleaner and have better power.

Would it pass the Oregon emissions test?
March 9th, 2012 at 1:32 pm
I bet that was LOUD.
SawHeard one of those things come up behind me on the freeway once out of San Francisco (we have rednecks here believe it or not), with similar exhaust stack on it. I about broke my neck swiveling my head around to see what it was. Every time he romped on the gas it shot forward thirty feet and sounded-off. I could still hear him when he was a mile ahead of me. Rather amazing indeed.March 9th, 2012 at 1:59 pm
I must have more inner redneck than I thought, I had a couple minutes “maybe I should get a truck”

I don’t know if they’ve changed the test since, but my brother in Portland had a diesel Rabbit and gave up trying to explain to them that hooking him up for emission was a waste of time because diesels don’t make what they’re looking for.

Most of the time you don’t get to sit there and build up to a drag race the way he did. Usually once you pull up to the line and stage you only get a second or so before they trigger the lights.

I just love watching these things run also. The most impressive thing I have seen was these 10 and 11 second Peterbuilts and Kenworths.
