Still more stuff on that Florida shooting
I read a lot of gun blogs and gun publications. And with rare exception, most gun people are of the opinion that it was an overzealous mall ninja who pushed a situation too far. And then shot some kid. Totally avoidable. The police even told the shooter not to follow the guy. The flip side of this is that the anti-gunners and liberal media sorts (but I repeat myself) are bringing out all kinds of stupid. For instance, The Brady Campaign To Cling To Relevancy gets its press release activism on with their shiny new president making his first public remark that I know of. You want the stupid, you can’t handle the stupid:
Trayvon Martin’s Shooting is NRA’s Vision for America
So, they hired an idiot? Well, go with what you know.
Up next in stupid reactions to this is some misogynist claiming that the laws that justify killing Martin are to be blamed on women who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse. No shit. First, if it’s murder, no law justifies. And the grand jury is still out on that one. And next, that’s just stupid.
But let’s blame stand your ground laws. It’s easier than thinking.

Just like it isn’t a “Gun Free Zone” when you’re taking incoming fire, its hardly “being protected by the stand your ground law” when you’re awaiting charges to be filed.

Americas biggest problem. The denouncing of personal responsibility…

I don’t know what to think about this whole thing. On the one hand, reports make it pretty clear this was true vigilantism and mall ninjary.
On the other, the press keeps reporting Zimmerman as white and the most recent photos of the 17 year old kid seem to be from when he was 9 or 10 years old.
It seems to me that if everything went down the way it’s being reported, there’s no reason to “sex it up” with those (I’ll be charitable here) misdirections.
Things that make you go “hmmm….”

Seems like the media has an agenda.
One of the first reports of this incident contained a statement from the only witness.
He saw Zimm on the bottom, getting beaten pretty soundly and calling for help. Witness went inside to call 911. Heard “Bang,” came back outside and saw the teen dead on the ground.
As long as a witness doesn’t exist that saw Zimmerman instigate the assault then I say he walks.
Some of you knee jerkers need to remember that 911 operators can’t give a lawful order, many of them are mouthbreathers, and just because we, as a nation, have subcontracted our safety out to the police doesn’t mean we, as citizens, don’t have a duty to watch out for our neighborhoods.
I will wait and see. Though my prediction is a no bill.

If you Pursue a person you think is a criminal and they fight back then you shoot them only to find that they were innocent what does that make you other than stupid??? If another person unlawfully tries to detain me I am legally able to defend myself… The person trying to UNLAWFULLY detain me is not entitled to such pleasantries..

John,
You may be correct about how things went down but don’t discount the stupidity of testosterone.
More than once I have followed a local street pharmacist. When challenged, I usually said, “just out for a walk.” A certain percentage eventually wanted to fight or threaten to kill me. I was lucky that east had a response time of less than a minute on most calls to my street. the teens were typically to more quick to anger. The obese fellow made several mistakes. Is it wrong to speculate that he may have gotten too close? All it takes is, “hey homie, u stealin or dealin?” Then the witness statement about the beatdown makes sense. Bleeding head and bloody nose can be readily spun into fear of death or serious injury.

I figure he accused the kid of being a criminal and got his ass kicked which he deserved. He then did the ultimate in stupid by drawing is weapon in a situation he created. There was no premeditation but that does not excuse the death. He deserves manslaughter period…
Some could try and transpose what happened by saying what if it had been you seeing the kid.. Well if it had been me this would not have happened. First of all I do not engage or pursue people that are not attempting to engage me. If I saw him walking down the street and was worried I would have called the police. Then go on my merry way.. Even though this is supposedly a free country where a person should be able to walk down the street without harassment from anyone some people just cannot leave others alone.
If someone acted toward me as zimmerman did the first thing I would be reaching for would be my weapon. The next would be to see if he produces ID saying he is a cop or attempts to draw said weapon in which case I would shoot to kill.

I’d like to know if Zimmerman was a registered Democrat.
We may have to ban those.
