The ten worst built cars for 2012

A list. It is interesting that the makers of eight of those ten cars are made by companies who should no longer be in business. But you got to pay for them.

The science is settled

What science, libertarianism have in common

Doesn’t a domestic violence conviction and a restraining order remove your right to own guns?

It does. Unless you’re the sheriff of San Francisco. Like you and me, only better.

Pattern lock

My phone has a pattern lock in which you must trace a pattern on the screen with your finger to access it. This is to keep people out of it. One day when I was driving, the Mrs. needed to use my phone but she forgot the pattern and couldn’t get it in three attempts. If you get to five, it locks down for about 10 minutes. Junior then says to the wife to let her see it. She takes the phone, looks at it, swipes her finger and hands the unlocked phone to her mom. I asked her how she knew the pattern and she says she didn’t. She says she just saw the pattern my ‘finger grease’ left on the screen. Clever. She should work for the FBI: FBI, stumped by pimp’s Android pattern lock, serves warrant on Google.

It’s like we don’t need congress any more

A bit back, ATF implemented a long gun reporting requirement on border states. This sort of law making is usually reserved to, oh I dunno, the legislature. Now, the IRS has decided it needs to regulate small tax preparers.

Quote of the day

They can’t see past their prejudices.

What happened to Sig?

I used to carry Sigs and Sigs only. It’s true. But I switched to Glock due to the trigger. And my Sigs worked fine. But lately enough people complain about their quality that I have to wonder.

Even gun snobs.

When you thought the ridiculousness couldn’t get any more ridiculous

Remember that double barrel 1911? Well, imagine it in 38 super. When’s the 10mm version due? Or a .50!

Silencer shoot

At AAC, the Silencers are Legal shoot.

Still more stuff on that Florida shooting

I read a lot of gun blogs and gun publications. And with rare exception, most gun people are of the opinion that it was an overzealous mall ninja who pushed a situation too far. And then shot some kid. Totally avoidable. The police even told the shooter not to follow the guy. The flip side of this is that the anti-gunners and liberal media sorts (but I repeat myself) are bringing out all kinds of stupid. For instance, The Brady Campaign To Cling To Relevancy gets its press release activism on with their shiny new president making his first public remark that I know of. You want the stupid, you can’t handle the stupid:

Trayvon Martin’s Shooting is NRA’s Vision for America

So, they hired an idiot? Well, go with what you know.

Up next in stupid reactions to this is some misogynist claiming that the laws that justify killing Martin are to be blamed on women who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse. No shit. First, if it’s murder, no law justifies. And the grand jury is still out on that one. And next, that’s just stupid.

But let’s blame stand your ground laws. It’s easier than thinking.

The dumbest thing you’ll read until the next dumbest thing you read

A question on a test: A plantation owner had 100 slaves. If three-fifths of them are counted for representation, how many slaves will be counted?

So, this question does two things, it teaches math and it they learn about a pretty horrible thing that happened in this country.

This has people upset because they don’t want kids learning or learning about things that are unpleasant or something. I’m not sure what. And this is the dumb part:

I don’t know what to say. I believe that slavery is still in Georgia. I didn’t know that it would go this far. I think they need to resign or something

Oh, you believe it. Well, it must true then.

Even more on the FL shooting

A few interesting bits on the Trayvon Martin shooting. A grand jury has been convened, which I would expect given the info we have about the case. And it’s not the case to take against no duty to retreat laws.

Meanwhile, reports now that one round was fired:

Police found a single shell casing at the scene, and when they seized George Zimmerman’s handgun, a Kel Tel* 9 mm, its magazine was full, according to a source close to the investigation. The only bullet missing was the one in the chamber, the source said.

This conflicts with the family lawyer’s account that it was two shots.

* Layers of editorial oversight. Or a typo, I’m one to talk.

More on the Florida shooting

I’ve made it clear my thoughts on the shooting of Trayvon Martin. Pretty much, it seems to be death by mall ninja. But this case proves how poor a grasp the press, liberal blogs, and anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) have on Florida’s no duty to retreat law.

It’s always about race: Dark hispanic = white, when it fits a narrative. And, of course, the rise of insurrectionist militias isn’t being spun the same way. And it looks like the FBI’s civil rights division is involved. And folks are advocating taking his permit without due process of law.

This is going to get ugly.

More at Reason.

It was only a test

ABC affiliate posts Republican primary results a day before the election. Curious. They claim it was a test. I dunno, but you don’t test these types of things by going live with them.

OC in Cali

A challenge to the state’s ban:

In wart, truth is the first casualty

A bit back, my five year old son had a wart on his big toe. After trying some over the counter remedies and having his pediatrician try to freeze it off, the wart persisted. So, he was referred to a podiatrist. The doc prescribed a cream that we were to apply daily for 24 days. Imagine the sticker shock when I got to the pharmacy and saw that the retail price for the cream was $975 (yay, co-pay). After about 5 treatments, the wart fell off but we kept applying it for the full run to make sure. Then, we have a follow up appointment with the podiatrist to make sure we’re all clear. And we are.

I then tell the doc that I was a little surprised at the retail cost of that stuff. And he tells me that if I knew what it was for, I wouldn’t be surprised that people would pay that. Seems it’s for warts that occur in, uhm, areas that are a bit more embarrassing.

A bit back, I noted the correlation that the more embarrassing the prescription you drop off at the pharmacy, the hotter the pharmacy technician will be. Only I didn’t realize it was embarrassing at the time. But, yeah, she was pretty nice looking too.

Online gun reviews, more stuff

Sebastian has a bit on it and notes that, basically, there’s so much it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. As a rule, if a gun sparks my interest, I’ll ask a few bloggers of note what they think of them. Or I’ll post about it here and you guys will tell me how it either sucks or is teh awesome. And that’s how I wound up with my Smith and Wesson M&P9, btw. I might even do some googling but that’s mostly going to show you the product’s press release reprinted at places that print press releases.

Double standards

Waiting for the anti-gunners to condemn this insurrectionist militia:

The New Black Liberation Militia, a self-styled black survival group, has announced that it plans to make a citizens arrest of Zimmerman next week, the Associated Press reported.
