M1 Garand, CMP Special (.308)
Allow 30-60 days for delivery.
M1 Garand Springfield Armory receiver. This is a completely refurbished rifle consisting of an original M1 Garand Springfield receiver, new production Criterion barrel, new production American Walnut stock and handguards, and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. A .308 spacer block is installed to prevent the loading of a .30-06 round into the chamber.
Phenicks,
I reload for the Garand.
It isn’t true that you have to use “low pressure” ammo for the Garand. Garands load to the same chamber pressure as bolt guns. You have to use ammo loaded with powder that has a pressure curve that is within certain parameters, ie, medium burning rate (IMR 4895, IMR 4064, others). Gas port pressure is critical to prevent bending of the operating rod.
Commercial ammo is loaded for bolt actions and should not be used in gas operated semi autos unless it is labeled as being loaded for them. Federal and some others have ammo loaded specifically for Garands and M1As.

A: Is it worth 1k for a rebuilt 308 Garand?
B: Can you use off the shelf ammo with it? I know you need low pressure stuff for the standard 3006 Garand.

If only I had a Garand to spend… =)

If they made it into a .308 with a chamber block … there were problems with that.
The chamber blocks had a bad habit of getting extracted while stuck to the end of a shot cartridge.

Thanks Steve, you beat me to it. I have seen oprods get bent shooting ‘standard’ 30-06 ammo.
