There is a *TON* of weird stuff going on with these bills. Harwell (the house speaker) said Ramsey (the senate speaker/lt gov) told her the bill was dead in the Senate. He apparently told her this after it passed out of committee, but it was one of his pet issues during the campaign for gov so lots of people think Harwell is lying to make the house sponsors drop it.
On the house side, they held approximately 9,817 subcommittee meetings on these bills and then moved them to the full committee. This is being played by the press and democrats as “rushing the bills through” because, you know, they have 8 weeks or so before the session ends, and the bills can only be heard once per week.
Any way, the part we see is really confusing. We’ll know sometime this summer what actually happened.
