A new survey marking this week’s 30th anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms shows Canadians remain largely – but far from unanimously – resistant to surrendering certain rights in the name of reducing the threat of terrorism.

Surrendering rights in the name of reducing the threat of terrorism is a bit like having a sex orgy in the name of celibacy, or throwing a cocktail party to promote sobriety. No, see, you kill terrorists to reduce the threat of terrorism.
