Simplifying

I’ve spoken of diversity in handguns before. Concept being that, basically, options are good. And they are. But I’ve now changed. I now exclusively carry one of two guns that differ only in size. And I have similar holsters for each and they’re always in the same spot. No more pocket guns for me now. It’s just easier that way now. I suppose that could change but so far, I’m happy with it.

Up next, I may simplify my other guns. With exception of some sentimental guns, I may get rid of all my rifles that are not AR-15 pattern.

KISS.

When I left the military I did the opposite – I’ll buy and shoot anything except the AR.

Sorta of the old “Beware of the one gun hunter”

I’m trying to do the same myself. I’d kinda like an AR-15, but I already have an AK and SKS, so I feel like I’d rather stick with that caliber.

Right now I’d love to find an SKS-D or SKS-M for a good price, since not only do they use the same cartridge but they also take AK magazines.

Diversity of firearms is fine with me. However, I try to limit the calibers of ammunition at my place. Currently I support weapons that shoot 7.62mmx51, 5.56mm, .45ACP, 9mm Lugar, 12 ga. shotgun, and .22LR.

Even with this attempt at simplification, I still mess with 6 different smmunition types.

Diversity is fine, but the goal needs to be simplify.

I’m all for simplifying my Go-to guns.

But Diversity is the joy of my play guns. Sometimes I just want to shoot something different.

  6. DirtCrashr Says:

Size is diversity too – and size matters! I can’t get rid of the M1898 Krag, it’s a family heirloom.

  7. Steve Says:

    What Weer’d said.

  8. Wilson Says:

I’m moving in that direction myself.

  9. Adam Says:

    +1 to what Weer’d said.

For go-to self defense guns, simple is good.

For a collection, diversity is better. They don’t make a blued steel M&P..

  10. PawPaw Says:

i celebrate diversity myself. Carry gun is either a semi or a revolver, depending on my mood at the minute. Lots of rifles in 12-14 different calibers and every platform under the sun, from front-stuffers, through break-barrels, levers, pumps, bolts, autos.

However, we do what works for us. Simplicity is favored and even if my choices look strange to some, both of my pocket pistols operate the same way. Pull trigger repeatedly while beginning the fat-man dance. Run like hell and hope that the bad guy needs to find an emergency room. Call police.

At least you live in a Free State where you can Diversify. Think of those Poor Bastards in places like New Jersey. Why, there’s people there who only have .38 Snubs, .38 Revolvers for the Nightstand, and .38/.357 Lever Guns for “Riot Control.”

Of course, they don’t have to worry about any Future Hi-Cap Magazine Bans, nor be Penalized because their Rifle has a “Shoulder Thing that goes Up”, nor do they half to spend $1.50 a round for Hollow Points that they can’t buy anyway, so they…..

    Hmmm, on second thought….

  12. Jim Brack Says:

You can never have to many guns! You need a handful just to scatter around the house. Never know when the zombies will come and through which door or window. And those are just for protection. Then there are the fun guns, black powder, bolts, pumps, levers, semiautos the list can go on and on.

When I lived in Jersey 1976-1984 they were a major PITA even back then, I bought my guns in PA and stored them at my fathers home.

  13. MJM Says:

I’m there. Want fewer, not more. Of course, I could never get rid of that ________ and there seem to be quite a few of those blanks.

  14. comatus Says:

Adam, I have a blued steel M+P. It is also known as the Model of 1899. Most reliable gun I own, but, six shots.

  15. Drake Says:

NJ isn’t quite that bad. Forget getting a CCW, but you can buy virtually any rifle or pistol on the market (with the reduced capacity mags). You can also buy hollow-points, although nobody really understands what you can and can’t do with them.

Jersey is a bastion of freedom compared to my former home of Massachusetts.

  16. Rivrdog Says:

So Uncle, what I hear is that you are betting your 2A on Obama being defeated so he can’t bring in the UN Small Arms Treaty, after which you will be restricted to 5-shot bolties and double shotties as long arms, and any handgun will have to stay in a gun club’s safe.

Make that bet, Uncle, whilst I diversify, trade off the 4473 guns and prepare to dig.

  17. mike Says:

Getting rid of guns? Sorry, I’m not following you.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
