Elections are decided by two populations in coalition: the informed electorate who votes consistently, plus the uninformed electorate who hears something that gets them just excited enough to actually go vote. If they just barely convince informed conservatives and libertarians to stay home on election day, they win. If they just barely manage to hide the puppy-eating instincts of the president, they win.
Hillary Clinton would have beat Obama in the primary, except for the small, bareless noticeable tweek from crap like this. Knock a few people off twitter, have a few dead people vote, and the effect aggregates.
