Quote of the Day
Tam on the debate of keeping one in the pipe: I would like to point out that they are called “handguns”, and not “handsguns”, for a reason.
Heh.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Carrying a Handgun out on the Streets in Condition 3 is the same as carrying a Dull Knife. Remember the Ads that say “When Seconds Count.”

I can’t imagine carrying a semi-auto with an empty chamber.

I completely agree, BUT…
As a long-time firearms instructor… I have seen a number of folks over the years that do not have the comfort level to carry their semi-auto pistol with one in the chamber… I’ve actually seem folks literally shaking with fear and nervousness as they picked up a gun…
These folks exist and it often takes while for them to develop a certain level of comfort and confidence in themselves when handling or carrying a firearm…
And truth be told… I think there are a lot of CCW folks that started out carrying without one in the chamber due to their comfort/confidence level… more than most people realize…

Look at it this way. Carrying a sidearm with a dry pipe and a full mag is better than not carrying one at all.

Huck has a point, but the ONLY gun I carry without one ‘up the pipe’ is an old Peacemaker, cause it WILL go boom if dropped…

It did indeed take me a bit to get over the +1, as much as I was reading one way or the other. I had to come to terms, but in fact I did before I started carrying in public. I’m just about over having the thumb safety wiped by bumping into things (it’s on the outside when you use the wrong hand) but I still keep it on by default. I figure my comfort level is more important than my tacticool cred.

With Huck on this one. As a single action fanboy, con 1,2,3, in no particular order. I prefer to keep MY gun the way I think it needs to be. I might be cocked-n-locked, IWB. I may be hammer down, one in the pipe, or, I might leave it in it’s holster, somewhere safe, with an empty chamber. Or, any combination of the above. That’s my choice, not someone else’s. I won’t go sofar as to quote Linoge on this, but I will thank him for the given sentiment.

DA auto, one up the spout, rapid response, is the point of it. That works for me.
