Perhaps the Toronto councilors and victims advocates could point to a single crime of violence solved by the database? No? Well, alrighty then, no the database serves no legitimate government purpose and should be destroyed.
Because these filthy political whores (especially in Toronto) are simply incapable of respecting the rights of any Canadian citizen.
Unless, of course, doing so might cause them to be removed from office come the next election.
Why? Easy. They hope what I pessimistically expect: sooner or later Canada will snap out of its relatively sane period and revert to electing Liberals again. The Conservatives will be voted out of office and the work will begin on a new registry law — “done right this time”.

Because it’s Toronto, which is kinda like Boston and New York rolled into one.
Over the freer parts of Canada, they hate it.

It makes sense to keep it to the Torontonians. Wouldn’t you want a ready-made enemies/ blackmail list if you wanted a disarmed populace?

So preserve the data for use under that new law.
