What he said
Retired law enforcement officer on modern policing:
I appreciate the difficult work performed by law enforcement officers in this country. But when an officer reaches the point where his concern for personal safety does not permit him to recognize the Constitutional rights of other Americans, it’s time to find a new line of work.

The quote above is a comment to the retired officer’s letter which was actually a bit anti-gun.

That reason… with a twist… is part of the reason I left law enforcement and closed that chapter in my life. The blatant disregard to the Constitutional Rights of others. I knew too many police officers who had a chip on their shoulder, used a piss poor attitude with a citizen, and then became angry and used foul language towards a citizen just because the citizen observed their Constitutional Rights, primarily under the 2nd and 4th Amendments. I knew guys that would yell at someone for not letting them search their vehicle.
Yeah, I wasn’t too worried about the criminal citizens I encountered, but the criminal cop with a clean record? Afraid for my life. How can I expect them to back me up? The short answer… I can’t. AND YOU CAN’T EITHER.
I never once had a problem with an individual who had a firearms permit. By and large, they were law abiding citizens, as I am today. I suspect I would rather have Uncle, wizardpc, and Linoge (among others) back me up than 99% of my fellow former officers.
