Kill or stop?
Targets you won’t usually see. Regarding the incident in question, I’m with him. Center mass is easier to learn and more effective.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

The problem with shooting someone in the leg is that their legs are moving quickly if they are attacking. Center of body is a lot easier to hit.

Knee-capping, its IRA approved!

I recall reading a medical article on IRA knee-capping. It came in two formats: from the front of the leg, through the patella, and from the rear of the leg, through the knee joint. One was worse than the other, in terms of rebuilding the knee joint.
I can’t recall which.
Either would be very unpleasant.

If you feel safe enough to shoot someone in the leg to stop them, you weren’t in imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury.
Welcome to your attempted murder with a deadly weapon charge. Oh, you just wanted to wound them? Well, let’s discuss the femoral artery and how fast someone can bleed out from it. A reasonable person would know that and therefore you knew your shot could reasonably result in death, but you obviously didn’t believe you were in imminent danger. Therefore, you attempted to unlawfully kill the individual.
Either you shoot to stop the imminent threat or you don’t shoot at all.

I’ve been trained that 90% of all gunshot wounds are survivable. This is foolhardy. It is hard enough to hit a paper target that is not moving. Stress and fear will kick in and even well trained people will have trouble hitting the target beyond 7 yards. JKB is right. You’re just asking for trouble here. Shoot for the center of mass and tell the police the truth, that you feared for your life and used deadly force, even if you hit the assailant in the leg.

Louis Awerbuck was pretty insistent on, “Center-of-Mass” with that being ANY mass, you do the center – quickly. Don’t get all over complicated.
