I’ve hated Gander Mountain for a few other reasons as well. And I’ve urged others not to patronize them in the past and will continue to do so.

Curious about those reasons.

as am I. They are the nearest major outdoor retailer to Northern Virginia without having to cross the Potomac into Maryland (There’s a Basspro 40 minutes away just outside of BWI). Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg is about 45 minutes south of me. The Bass Pro in Richmond is 90 minutes away.
I’ve always thought of Gander Mountain as a downmarket wanna be BassPro/Cabelas. Their gun prices seem high. But they have a decent selection of gun powder, and a fairly well stocked selection of dog training supplies.
I’m upset to hear this. As it means I’ll just be disarming and going into Maryland more often.

Sebastian, I can’t fully describe the circumstances due to privilege, but it involves illegal and despicable behavior by the collection firm that works for their branded credit card.

I’ve never paid much to attention to the complaints I’ve read myself, as there isn’t one near me so I’ve never shopped there. I do recall seeing a fair number though, whatever that’s worth.
I’ve always just had the impression that they’re more of an outdoors store than a gun store.

SPQR: so, the bank that issued credit cards with gander’s logo on them hired a third party collection agency?
And that group, which gander didn’t have any say in hiring, violated federal law (collectors violating federal law? This is my shocked face), and that’s your basis for never doing business with them?
Put another way, Company A no longer gets your business because they hired Company B who in turn hired Company C who did nasty things because someone didn’t pay their bills.
How do you do business with anyone?

More of the hold them hostage until they capitulate tactics??? Reminds me of what the brady types try to do to starbucks.. Remember to always stoop below your enemies in order to get a leg up on them…

Yeah, I’m with wizard. A collection agency isn’t the same as the company branded on the card. And dollars to donuts, they weren’t even hired by the bank, but more than likely simply purchased the right to collect in the debt and ten undertook shady practices.
Happens all the time. That’s not worth holding against them.
Frankly, I don’t think this is either. I don’t blame them for canceling the political training. This isn’t a case were democrats are anti gun and republicans are pro gun. This is Wisconsin. Home to lots of anti gun liberals but also much much much more pro gun union members.
I’m sure Gander Mountain has no desire to get in the middle – and lose 50% of their customer base for siding with one or another. And so their approach, to get out of politics altogether strikes me as reasonable.

Yes, wizardpc, that’s my basis for not doing business with them. Especially after I received Gander Mountain’s response to my complaint to them on behalf of my client. Its still an open investigation with the state attorney general’s office.
countertop, no it was not a sold debt, they were acting as agents for the card issuer.

at GM everything firearms related is always well overpriced for our market but they always had the items in stock (wonder if one has anything to do with the other.) it seemed that easily a third of the store was dedicated to hunting and shooting equipment.
