Reasoned Discoursetm

I expect it from anti-gun people but not from Texas CHL forum.

Update: Edited based on a comment from Alan regarding the relationship between TX CHL and TSRA.

The relationship between The TexasCHLForum and the TSRA is murky. The forum domain is owned by Charles Cotton but the forum itself doesn’t list any ownership or governing info. Cotton was at one time on the board of the TSRA and the NRA but doesn’t appear to be a board member of either at this time.

The TSRA.com site doesn’t link to the TexasCHLForum so I don’t think it’s an official forum of the TSRA.

I’m sure there are people out there that are a lot more informed on the subject than I am.

The relationship between the TexasCHL forum and the open carry movement has been rocky at best. The boys from OC movement have a long history of throwing insults, making personal attacks, and violating other forum rules which has led the administration on TexasCHLforum to respond to potential rule violations from OC supporters a bit faster than they would otherwise do so. There have even been efforts to harass Cotton by posting his personal and work information by a very high ranking member of LoneStarCDL organisation, a tactic typically used by gun banners. I may be wrong but last I knew Cotton is a NRA board member and provides legal council for the TSRA’s legislative efforts. For the record: TexasCHLforum does not officially have a relationship to the TSRA.

Oh Texas, where wearing a bowie knife is banned by name. You’d think that here we wouldn’t need to have these kinds of discussions.

  4. Aaron Spuler Says:

One thing I find weird about TexasCHLForum is that there’s no dedicated pistol forum. But there’s a dedicated ‘Rifles & Shotguns’ forum…

Texas Gun Talk is where I hang out.

Why can’t Texans OC? The OC prohibition seems so New York beta male.

One big beef I have with many of the open carry *groups* is their idiotic “Open carry is the right, conceal carry is the privilege” meme. I’d like to see just one of them give a solid historical and legal argument for that rather than just saying it because it sounds good.

Talk about muddying up the works for those states trying to get so-called “constitutional carry.” (I put that in quotes because it’s not really constitutional carry unless they just repeal *all* their gun laws, full stop. Oh, and then talk to our congressional delegation about working on the federal restrictions, as well. But at least getting the state out of the way goes a long way.)

That said, open carry in TX seems like a no-brainer. At last count, I think there were only six states that banned it outright, and OK just dropped off that list, apparently. Come on, Texicans, get with it! 😉 Even here in North Cackalaki, open carry isn’t banned (no permit required, either). Though you can still be harassed by clueless LEOs in some jurisdictions.

markofafreeman: That’s how the PA supreme court saw it… there is no law against it, and you are allowed to keep and bear arms. You have to ask for a license here to conceal.

  9. markofafreeman Says:

Bryan: Yeah, that’s the way it is in most states at the moment. However, if we are going to get that changed, it would help if the open carry groups would stop using a catchy phrase that contradicts that.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
