In ROTC, our instructor shot an M16 by resting it on his nose. But there is a lot more to flinch than recoil. Noise, I suppose, and that subconscious fear that a heavy cartridge will travel aroud the earth and shoot you in the butt. I am a very big fan of .22LR in a decent sized pistol (grips and barrel). I think the subsonic (Match) is the most accurate as well. It gives the new shooter skills and confidence and when he “moves up” “it’s ok, what’s the big deal”.

I’m not a fan of the 10/22 takedown, it’s the heaviest of the takedown rifles available by quite a bit.
