Hollow points

Fact and fiction

  1. Mike V. Says:

With any handgun round, its aleays going to be shot placement and volume of rounds on target. Hollowpoints, as the article points out, helps reduce overpenetration.

  2. Lyle Says:

The conclusion in the article is part of the story. The other part is that hollowpoints cause more damage. That or my entire childhood and much of my adult life shooting different things with different bullets is a series of memories transmitted to my brain by the CIA via satellite through the implant a conspiring dentist put in my skull when I was a kid, all to make me believe that hollowpoints cause more damage. One or the other, depending on which is more likely. You be the judge.

All kidding aside; the author was being extra super PC. Dumdums worked because they expanded on impact and did more damage, much like hollowpoints. Anyone who’s seen the effects of the fragile .223 “varmint grenade” bullets knows. Hunters use softpoints for the same reason– not primarily to reduce over penetration but primarily to cause more damage. The think behind a defensive pistol round is for both– you want a rapid stop and you want to avoid overpenetration. No point in being coy about it.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
