More guns, more restrictions

Scottish government wants power to limit number of guns purchased because, wait for it, people are buying lots of guns.

    Two items that stood out as especially interesting to me:

    1 – “we can better control the number of lethal weapons in society and thereby help to protect and reassure the Scottish public.”

    That second part is the real reason – it’s all about “assurance” and “Look! We’re doing something!”

    2 – “a gun licence costs just £50, compared to a TV licence at £145.50”

    A TV LICENSE??? True enough: “The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they’re being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and Blu-ray/DVD/VHS recorders.”

    Check out that site – especially the link to the page that explains “How to tell us you don’t watch TV” and lets you know that if you do indicate that you don’t watch TV, a house visit may be required to ensure that you’re being honest.

    Wow an average of 3 guns per person.

    Also a commenter points out that the Police already have to approve each individual purchase on a “needs” basis.

    What I found intersting was that so far all the comments are negative and mocking this as a totalitarian gun grab.

    Time until Rob Pincus et al. starts blaming Scottish gun owners for daring to buy so many guns?

    Are you sure that this legislation is not, in fact, being pushed by a bunch of sneaky English bastiches?
    After all, we all KNOW what happens when pissed-off Scots with sharp steel objects are told by the English what to do…. 😉
