Pretty funny. I hated the 1911 too. When I was in the service, had one issued to me for guard duty a few times. Having never fired or even stripped one, I wasn’t too sure how the damn thing worked. I just walked around with this cinder block on my hip until I could give it back.

I owned four. He hits the nail on the head. I have since sold all but one of the 1911s. They were unreliable, low capacity, overpriced jamomatics.

Gee, the 45 I have works fine, even with hollowpoints. Any weapon that doesn’t run has an issue that needs to be addressed by sending it back to the factory or with a competent gunsmith.

My Colt went back to the factory twice. The full size Kimber once, and the mid sized Kimber went to the gunsmith, who told me that “1911s need new springs every 700 rounds or so.” That is why I got rid of them.
I own over 20 handguns, and 3 of the four 1911s were the most unreliable of the lot.

It is a great design, but it is old. I have had many, but I never keep them. I just can’t justify all that size, weight, and maintenance to only have 8 rounds.
I fully repect them and will always have a soft spot for 1911’s and Peacemakers, but aside from plinking, I have no use for them.

I don’t like 1911’s because they don’t fit my hand very well compared with other designs, like Berettas and Hi-Powers. Glocks, for example, don’t fit my hand at all. I’d have to point it at your balls to knock your hat off. But I have to wonder, for those of you for whom 1911’s have been so horribly unreliable, what are you doing wrong? I’ve shot some really shitty designs in my time, and none of them were 1911’s. A screw driver doesn’t strip screws by itself.

My EDC is essentially a 1911, and not only compact but 12+1, and the worst I’ve had out of it is the last round not wanting to come out of a 14. That’s a pretty long way for a spring to push that many, though.

Divemedic, your gun problems had a cheaper solution. A different gunsmith. New springs every 700 rounds my ass.
