@mikee – at this point it appears the public intoxication laws will be expanded to meet the very smart enlightened standard of zero tolerance…or possibly a 5 nanogram tolerance (the arbitrary and meaningless THC standard now being advocated in multiple states).
Not only will marijuana NEVER be legalized, but additional substances will be made illegal: bath salts, sodas, sugar and whatever else TPTB come up with.
Can’t wait to see the day when the DEA busts down people’s doors for drinking “illegal assault softdrinks” (what in formerly free America used to be known as Big Gulps).
Rivrdog – the problems in Mexico are mostly caused by the War On (Some) Drugs in this country.
Prohibition has NEVER worked, because the market WILL provide what people want.
Isn’t it funny that all of this stuff was legal for the first 100 years that the US was in existence, and yet we still managed to survive. And without no-knock-warrants, police acting like military. And everything else that the War on (Some) Drugs have given us.
If people can get drugs into maximum security prisons all over America, then you have to know that prohibition will never work. Especially for a plant that grows damn near everywhere.
Anyone who believes that prohibition DOES work, but we’re not trying hard enough, is a damn fool and an idiot.

When pot is legal, the public intoxication laws will still be in effect, right?
