Re: LCP/P3AT: before whining about these tiny pistols which “will only shoot ball”, do some chronograph work with those little guns. You will likely find that M/V doesn’t exceed 800-850 fps, which is marginal for expanding jacketed hollow point ammo.
I carry a P3AT about half the time, and I load it with Scottsdale Ammo’s HPR 100-gr TMJ. With low-energy ammo, you need all the penetration you can get, and hollow point ammo doesn’t penetrate as well as ball.
Sure, these pocket pistols are compact, lightweight and functional. They do not and will not, not now, not ever have the visual or tactile appeal of an old Colt 1903 Hammerless, the coolest pocket pistol ever made.
