K9 officer and dog training program fail.

With very few extremely rare exceptions, dogs are blank slates, and do what they are taught to do.

Army K9 corp dog handlers are issued pistols for this same reason. Army guard dog ( as opposed to explosives detecting dog ) training is far more violent that police K9 training, so the pistol is an absolute necessity.

I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion so quickly. While it is certainly possible, it sounds like it was a sudden change in behaviour and that they may have suspected some medical reason for it. Police K9 programs have been around for a long time, so I would think they’re pretty good at spotting training/handling issues that would cause this kind of thing and taking care of them early.

I’m interested in what the results of the necropsy will end up being.

The K9 thought he was going in to the vet’s to get tutored, and was unhappy that he had misheard the purpose of the visit.

  4. Pathfinder Says:

Shouldn’t the po-po man be charged with killing a police officer? You would if you killed his dog.

Face eating zombieism has jumped species.

    There is no hope.

I’ve seen Dobies that went wiggie with age, still have the scar. (BTW, I claim no expertise, it was a guard dog I had known for some years.) I have also seen Sheppards get over protective against when a house has to many people in it. I side with the cop. My neighbors have pittbulls. Anything, chewing on my arm, gets as many holes as I can get in it.

Worked with a USAF dog handler, who had an all-white Shepherd named “Tuffy”. Said handler was 6’2″, 230 solid muscle pounds.

Tuffy ’bout tore his forearm off. Handler had to “helicopter” the dog at the end of the choke. The USAF vet chose to destroy “Tuffy” after that.

Reason being, that was the thrid handler that was Purina Tuffy Chow.

Just like people, not all dogs are well balanced, either.

Yea Jim, but those are damned rare.

Jake: I think a training fail is more likely than an organic problem. But yea, it could happen.

  9. craig Says:

I agree with Pathfinder: charge him as a cop killer. That’s the only way we’ll ever end the absurdity of the law treating police dogs as equivalent to humans.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
