And it’s for a good cause

First, they tried to ban lead ammo for the condors

Now, they want to ban steel ammo because it starts fires.

What’s in your range bag?

Mostly ammo in mine. But Wizard tells you what he takes to the range.

Zombie Craze: A trip to the local gun store

In keeping with my 100 round challenge, I went out and shot with my dad at Gunny’s. My dad was quick to point out all the zombie stuff. Here’s some zombie ammo boxes, which the guy behind the counter said were selling like hotcakes (I don’t actually remember the last time I bought a hotcake):

Then, here’s the zombie certified rifle from Anderson Manufacturing:

I want to start a brand of shark jumped gun products.

Because we should always make laws based on freaked out victim’s emotional pleas

In Cali (of course), a bill to take guns away from those going through a divorce or child custody battle. Yes, because what we need to do is take gun away from a battered woman who might be going through that.

Idiots.

Gear and training

Caleb:

Sure, I didn’t need training. A pocket gun was enough. I got lucky. I also probably won’t get in a car crash today, but I’m still going to wear my seatbelt when I go buy lunch this afternoon. I probably won’t cut my hand today, but I still have disinfectant and bandages in the house.

A seatbelt and first aid kit? A seatbelt and first aid kit are more akin to gear than to training. I can drive just fine without HPDE. The more appropriate analogy I think would be CPR training. The fact is, as tool-users, we can accomplish quite a lot by employing tools for jobs.

It’s like there’s this weird dynamic on this training issue where on one side you have people who think all training sucks and as long as they have their lucky rabbit’s foot err gun in their pocket, they’re ten feet tall and bulletproof. And on the other, you have people who eat, sleep and poop training because they’re high-speed, low-drag mall ninja wanna be supper troopers who think everyone who doesn’t work out and train is one cell level above an amoeba in terms of functioning.

And I know neither of those is true but that’s pretty much what each sides says about the other. Anyway, I take training classes for a simple reason: they’re fun and I learn stuff.

And I want to take HPDE.

Changes in the gun blogs

Sebastian looks at the changes and notices a lot more commercial venture blogs than amateur blogs (like you’re reading now). I guess I benefited from being an early adopter. This blog only became ‘commercial’ the day I realized that people would actually pay me money to paste code into a site I was going to run anyway. If I were to run a commercial blog, knowing what I know now, I did it exactly the wrong way.

Stop touching it

Getting back and realizing your gun wasn’t topped off. Mine just always are loaded. They’re pretty much only ever empty after shooting at the range. Then, I load them before I leave.

Be careful when you leave America

Possessing an item that is lawful every where but there results in city blocks shut down and full on cops in ninja gear. Over handguns.

There couldn’t be some other, logical explanation now could there?

Wasting my tax money, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is attacking civil rights by inquiring as to whether stand your ground laws are racially biased. Bringing the stupid:

Data compiled by the Wall Street Journal shows a near-doubling of justifiable homicides from 2005-2011 in states where SYG [Stand Your Ground] has passed.

As though that’s a bad thing? And look, scary numbers:

Moreover, their data shows that while white killers of black victims comprises only 3.1% of all homicides, such cross-racial killing constitute 15.6% of justifiable homicides.

And:

A separate study by the FBI found “34% of cases involving a white shooter killing a black person were deemed as a justifiable homicide. Meanwhile, in similar situations, when the shooter was black and the victim was white, the homicide was ruled justifiable only 3.3% of the time.”

Yeah, I mean it must be racism. It’s not like there’s some other potential reason for that. I mean, that would be racist!!!!

FNS-9 Issues

Active Response Training reports:

The instructors carrying them noted a very serious problem with the gun which had gone unrecognized until recently.

There are a couple of situations where the slide will lock up cannot be racked. When this happens, the slide can only be released by pulling the trigger. This can be disasterous in a defensive situation (especially during a malfunction if you can’t clear a bad round) and dangerous even for more casual shooting if an inexperienced person is unfamiliar with the problem.

According to the instructors with whom I spoke, the slide locking problem happens most often if the muzzle is struck (which could occur during a struggle over the gun or if the gun is dropped in a fight). It doesn’t seem to take much force to cause the slide to freeze.

Odd

A woman at a Lowe’s store had some loose ammo in her purse. Something must have hit the primer because a round went off injuring her. I wonder how, exactly. Part of what makes a bullet dangerous is the pointy end and for that to work it has to be aimed through a barrel for pressure. Seems to me a bullet just going off would be loud but mostly just noise. I don’t see it traveling far or doing much damage.

Over 100K Clarksville City residents information compromised

Looks like a hacker group has published a list of names, social security numbers, and school system computer passwords online. The group’s message is:

Clarksville, Tennessee was primarily targeted due to their belligerence. To be clear here, We gave Tennessee a chance to comply and they didn’t, therefore, this is the consequence they’ll have to swallow.

No idea what they were supposed to comply with. Anyone?

Update: Also, no local press coverage at all. People might want to know that.

Interesting and morbid read. Oh sure, it will hurt someone’s feelings because it’s morbid and callous. But it does make a certain amount of economic sense.
