I don’t like to recommend small frame .38s to women. That being said, my Grandmother once shot a guy, in the ass, as he jumped over a hedge, with one. You did NOT mess with my Grandmother.
Mom wanted an automatic. We went to the gun store to find one for her. She was at the counter for over an hour, trying every single gun the clerk brought out.
The problem, you see, is that my mother 1) is left handed and 2) lacks the hand strength to cock most automatics. Of those she could cock, all of them had a thumb safety specifically for a rightie.
We went with the LCR because there was no safety to mess with and she could pull the trigger. It was the one gun she could actually operate.
