Taxing something that has no value

  1. Bram Says:

The words “go fuck yourself” come to mind. Or, “here, it’s yours now, that will be $65 million.”

  2. Jerry Says:

    Because EXTORTION!

  3. Weer'd Beard Says:

+1 to Jerry, They can’t sell it, and its a family heirloom so I assume they’d rather keep it than give it away to a museum.

So the IRS knows they’re over a barrel, so they’re going to extort as much as they can from these people.

  4. Instinct Says:

I will agree with the statement that was made about it being ridiculous that it would have no value, but once again our government, and of course this is doubly true for the IRS, have shown that common sense isn’t common.

  5. dustydog Says:

Hey, if they didn’t want to pay their tax bills, they should have gotten an Obama appointment like all the other rich liberal tax-cheats.

  6. Heather Says:

Weer’d, even if they give it away, they’re still on the hook for the taxes – the article said it can’t be counted as a charitable donation.

  7. Nylarthotep Says:

Further proof that they are no longer “civil servants.”

Civility is long gone and they assume they are now the masters.

  8. Mu Says:

Don’t forget, if they pay we can afford another 8h in Afghanistan…

  9. Erin Palette Says:

If they can’t sell and can’t afford to keep it, clearly they should destroy it.

They should make a HUGE SPECTACLE of this, in fact. Invite television crews. Have a big bonfire. Have an IRS representative there to witness it.

Either someone will step up and pay the price for it, or the IRS is going to look VERY bad for being complicit int he destruction of art, and hopefully someone will lose their job for it.

  10. Reboot the system Says:

    CPA me this:

Give it to the IRS as payment. File for a $40 million refund.

    Would that fly?

  11. NAME REDACTED Says:

They valued it at a certain price. The people refused to pay, they then tripple the price. The word for that is extortion.

  12. Mr Evilwrench Says:

Does it have insurance coverage? It’s about ugly enough that it wouldn’t be a loss. What a coincidence! It burned down! Hey, now we can pay the taxes. Mirabile dictu.

  13. TIM Says:

My thoughts exactly Bram and Reboot give it to the IRS and file for a over payment of taxes demanding your 40 million Refund. It is a shame that they have already had to sell some 600 mill worth to pay tax bills.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
