I believe the suspect had a bolt action, because if you listen to hero’s (Vic Stacy’s) description, he says that after he shot the guy the first time, he “throw another shell in that rifle”, which he presumably wouldn’t have needed to do with a semi auto of any description. Stacy was almost certainly using a .357 Magnum pistol, and describes it as a “magnum bullet” and knew the officer had an “AR-15”, which the Sheriff described as an “assault rifle”. The sheriff did NOT describe suspect’s rifle with the same term.
It’s doable … at the first gunblogger rendezvous, Mr Completely and I were taking turns shooting the heads off of dandelions growing on the 150 meter berm ( using a .480 Ruger SRH ).
But then, we weren’t in the middle of a fucking firefight.
He said “165 yawrds”. You don’t know the size of the RV park. I don’t find 165 yds all that hard to believe– 357, 41, 44 Mag or some such and a good shooter. Some of the newer magnum revolvers generate carbine velocities, and some have near carbine barrel lenght.
Elmer Keith routinely took game at 400 to 500 yards with an iron sighted, 4 inch barrled .44 magnum. Keith shot a lot, of course, and had excellent eye sight even late in life.
Turns out the it was a .357 magnum. First shot hit him in the leg.. The cops tried to take credit for killing the guy.. I suspect no one is buying that. He was holding the cop off with a 30/30 leveraction….
International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association (IHMSA) shooting has rams at 200 meters. Been to them and yes, 5 out of 5 rams at 200 yards are done by the good shots. And they don’t use scopes either!
165 yards, 4 hits, very good.
Shows you what a good man with a gun can do. he KNEW just where to hold the sights at that range. And that means he knew his gun very well case a .357 drops alot at 165 yards.

Not “an impressive” (Singular), but multiple hits at 165 yds.

I know!!!!!! 4 shots at 165 yards.. I suspect .357 magnum.

Prolly 357…had it been 10mm the tree and gunman would have been vaporized.

Interesting…
Suspect: AR15
Officer: AR15
Description: Police officer was out gunned.
I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

So that’s the bastard that owns me across the map with his pistol on Modern Warfare 3?

@ATLien
You have that confused with the Stryker shotgun…I am sure.

He did it while under stress as well. Good show.

I’m gonna call BS on the 165 yard shots. That little trailer park isn’t big enough. He might have meant, or said 165 feet and it got misquoted.
Regardless, good job Mr Stacy!

Grams, drams, oz and fps, or it din’t happen.
American wants to know, dammit! Where is the press? Dillon or Lee?
xpo172 may well be right. I’d like to hear more about stance, support, grip, and sighting. Especially sighting.

Wizardpc: When a cop is “outgunned” it means that he’s up against a opponent who aint had police training and actually knows how to shoot.
