Follow the rules

And don’t be that guy

I’ve never been to a gun show, so I can only assume that when the writer of that article said that all guns were safety-checked and zip-tied, he was referring to firearms that were being brought in for sale? I’d do an immediate about-face at the door if someone asked to check and zip-tie my carry weapon.

Thanks for someone clarifying this for me!

At that gun show, every gun that enters by a visitor is safety checked and cleared. No loaded weapons are permitted in the facility.

However since it is in NC and the show charges admission, it would be illegal to carry anyway.

Is that true of all gun shows? No loaded personal concealed or open carry guns? There are gun shows a few miles down the road from me, and I keep telling myself to go to one just to see what’s to be seen, but I won’t if I can’t carry my own weapon for self-defense. What am I missing?

if it is my CCW weapon, I keep it holstered, I don’t touch it, and its presence is never a problem.

If I want to vend it, I will leave the show, unload it, and re-enter to have it zipped. Then I can play show-and-tell with it.

Out our way (AZ) you would want to be VERY concealed to carry a weapon “live” at a show, as they are patrolled by uniformed and plaincloths PD.
I’ve seen exactly two NDs at gun shows (out of maybe 20-30 I’ve been to) – one was a dropped baggie of .223 reloads (pretty bizarre), and the other was VERY similar to this – a REALLY STUPID seller who used his access (dealers are given ties and are expected to secure their own guns) to bring in a loaded 1911, which was then discharged (slightly wounding a woman).

At every show I’ve been to, the requirement is NO LOADED GUNS, period.

That’s generally the rule. I know it is with the shows here (an no loaded magazines, either), though it’s not the law in VA. They at least usually have a cop or two hanging around, too.

I compromise. I have a pocket knife (who doesn’t?), and I don’t tell anyone about the loaded magazine in my pocket. If necessary, I can cut that zip tie and have a loaded gun in hand fairly quickly.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
