Concealed carry in Illinois

And then, there were 49.X.

Good news from the last civil rights hold out: State’s Attorney Mike Valentine of Edwards County, IL is refusing to prosecute residents of that county for carrying concealed firearms so long as they are otherwise law-abiding citizens. Moreover, it looks like other Illinois State’s Attorneys might be joining the bandwagon.

    Unpossible!

  2. treefroggy Says:

I hope you’re not counting Maryland in that. We’re not quite to 49, just approaching it asymptotically.

As always, the “Free State” puts the ass in asymptotic.

  3. Windy Wilson Says:

    @#$%^&* Commifornia!

  4. JD Rush Says:

So all that bull crap I did with my gun when I went into Illinois (cased,unloaded,locked,10 round mag only) and they wouldn’t have messed with me if I just strapped it on. Wait, I went to Cook county. Still would have crucified me.

  5. Jake Says:

I wouldn’t count this at all, not even as a “0.X”. The next State’s attorney – or even the same one – can change this policy on a whim, and doesn’t even need to tell anyone outside of his office and the police for it to happen. The only notice the public would have is someone who was counting on this being charged and convicted of a felony.

It’s not real until it’s either a codified statute or binding court precedent.

  6. Bubblehead Les Says:

Sorry Unc, but until Springfield passes some Laws to restore Freedom AND they force Chicago to follow them, this is just a gap in the clouds.

  7. Other Steve Says:

Selected enforcement of the law is the first sign of what again? Oh, doesn’t count when you agree with it?

  8. NotClauswitz Says:

And if that’s Illinois taking a big dump, will California be able to hold-out in the midst of a depression, with early-release parolees running all around?

  9. Windy Wilson Says:

In every other area of the law the @#$%^&*! cities and counties in Commifornia go along like the new girl at school who was maliciously befriended by the clique of mean girls. For California to change on shall issue would be like the mean girls deciding to be nuns.

  10. Paul Says:

Let’s just hope the local LEOs get the memo. ‘Law abiding citizen’ can mean different things to different people. Some LEOs can, uh, have a much different idea of what constitutes a ‘law abiding citizen’.

Like say, do you have a FOID card? Is the tail light on your car out? Seatbelt locked? And why do you need that nasty gun anyway?

  11. Kristophr Says:

Yea, that’s only one county. And it probably won’t bind State cops on state highways.

Illinois is still a gestapo zone.

Other Steve: Like having blacks sit in the back of the bus and not use white drinking fountains? Fuck off and die, gun bigot.

  12. Other Steve Says:

Kristophr that’s a really terrible analogy. Let me propose a better one for you… It would be more like if Blacks from Edwards County were the only blacks to be able to ride in the front of the bus.

It only applies in that we both agree that it’s a wrong idea. That does not however make it NOT the law (at one point). If you read this blog more you might know the owner is fond of pointing out selected enforcement as tyranny. Like it or not, concealed carry is against the law in Il, the law that like it or not, was put in place by people elected to office. It’s irony or an unanticipated reversal of expectation to call it out when you don’t agree with it, but praise it when you do. That’s what I’m pointing out. I don’t like Il doesn’t have CC, but I don’t live there either, you’re always allowed to move to a free-state, but selected enforcement of the law is never a great move.

But OK, make a lame analogy and call me a racist. Racists actually might be better than trolls, assuming they aren’t the same anyhow.

When the laws are in conflict, there’s no option except selective enforcement. It’s not ideal (the ideal would be to have unambiguous laws), but when a State Attorney is forced to choose, it’s always *better* when they choose the right law over the wrong one.

  14. Ron W Says:

Finally the slaves are escaping the plantation in “the Land of Lncoln”. Somebody needs to put it a call to President Obama and Atty Gen. Holder to suppress this rebellion!

  15. CCW Proponent Says:

This is great, just at the time the State Attorney says he won’t prosecute law-abiding citizens for concealed carry, too. Way to go! It’s about time that people stopped trying to tell other people what to do and how to behave. Law-abiding citizens have a right to protect themselves and their families.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
